The Nug Machine... Round 3

Res change day !
I went with 30% lighter nutes this time, and no more Golden Tree.
Still added tea.
I also pondered hosing off the roots too, as it knocks off some smaller brown roots and clogs the top blue screen.
I opted NOT to, and simply cleaned the lower res, pump etc, and refilled, and still more stuff floating, circulating around just from the draining/refilling.
Well, I took off that top blue screen and added a filtration system down at the return into the lower res.
I didn't get a pic, but I set an extra net pot on top of the drain tube and it keeps good roots from swimming/floating with the flow down the drain, while letting the small loose pieces thru to the filter.
Opened the hole up a little in the lid and attached a piece of a knee high nylon stocking to a spare plastic sink drain piece with a rubber band.
Now I can shut of the pump and remove the filter, backwash it with the hose and be back running in minutes.
Overall, the roots look really good and Plentiful.

(you can also see I added a small Damp Rid (fragrance free) moisture extractor in the back, we have had some hot sticky weather lately.)

Oh.... BTW and FYI, I have realized that less is, in fact, more
Right before I lowered the nutes by 30%, I was having some pretty severe PH swings, but rapidly downward.
And I really noticed a slowing of the nugs on the GoldLeaf.
I was thinking that the left half of the fridge was gonna end up a big disappointment.
After the adjustment to this nute level, The GL is REALLY plumping, and adding some more height.
The AK was already KILLIN it, but she is getting plumper too !
Flip up and down on the last 2 pics and notice a particular bud, zoom in, you will see.
SO..... too much nutes possibly causes nute lockout and PH issues.
I learn something new every day !

I am sitting here looking at this picture, and I have been sitting on the floor in the shed looking at the bottom freezer area.
I have to do some shopping for a very shallow res that will hold around as much as the current one, but be as low as possible.
After this harvest, I intend to lower the upper root res and the surrounding tub 4".
The lip of the old outer tub will sit right on the floor in the grow area.
I have already figured out how to support the root tub utilizing the 2 supporting roads now in use.
And I'll have to do some duct work and move the light trap below and extend the A/C coming in at the top.

I am really stoked at this upcoming mod.
4 extra inches will really come in handy... (that's what she said) when vegging.
I would love to veg a bit more, but scared of the stretch.

This is gonna be awesome !

The tea I brew is supposed to bubble and FOAM when the bennies really start breeding.
I never got the foam real good till this time, I just bubbled my tap water for 2 days to remove most of the chlorine, then added the ingredients.
Big difference.
I just gave them 4 cups right out of the bucket.

oh dude!

Chlorine is antibacterial ofcourse it kills all the beanies =D even when doing organic soil you have to(well really aought to) de-chlorinate the water or u will kill off the microherds

btw why dont you just drop the res all the way down-you dont seem to be using your veg area(freezer) at all

Hey fishdeth,

Have the LED light strips you put in earlier been effective? Thinking about adding more light to my cab. I like how it's pretty low profile and it must be very low in heat? Can the leaves touch the light with out burning?

Or should i just save up and build a COB rig? and not fuss with adding more light now? i have about 175 watts draw at the wall now.

TIA for any lighting advice you can give me. ;-)

Well, the way I have the A/C running into the cab, it gets down to 50 degrees inside the freezer area and cools the soup, (currently @ 68 degrees) on its way to the flower area to cool it down then on thru the carbon filter.... which is STRUGGLING right now... the stanky dank is really setting in !
So I def want to keep the 2 compartments separate, but that extra 4 inches is gonna be JUST the ticket.

Edging a little closer to that benchmark I have mentioned in the past a couple times..... ;-)
After the next crop, I will be adding a parabolic reflector with the lamp mounted vertically with the mogul socket actually sticking up thru the top of the fridge.

I could actually notice some of the tops turning towards the LEDs.
As to their effectiveness, I figure they are so cheap that it couldn't HURT anything adding some extra light (and some red) in the darker corners.
Hopefully the parabolic reflector will put an end to those.
They do put off a little heat and a leaf tip will burn if left against it, probably a combination of heat and light burn, no prob, trim it off.
The strips do not come with a 12v power source.
I had a 12v, 2Amp power plug laying around, power source for an old radio or something.

I rearranged a few buds to get everybody in the light (DAMN... you should smell my hands right now)
The GoldLeaf is fattening up pretty good, and the AK-47 is going INSANE !
I've got a pretty good field of nugs in there right now !
With 3 1/2 weeks (25 days) to go, I think the GoldLeaf will turn out to be a decent harvest, but that "compact" strain, the AK is really gonna pull this harvest out of the hole.
Only 2 more res changes and about a week and a half of flush to go.

dude those things really took off through the flowering stage, just seems like they put on a lot more weight, quicker, this time around. Good looking stuff man!
Thanks !
Coulda been better, coulda been worse.....
Yea, ya learn new stuff all the time.
I learned the GL doesn't like the heavy nute schedule while the AK seems to have freakin flourished with the stronger soup.

Next up... Another go round with the GoldLeaf and Jack Herer as well !
