Ok, so I just got back from the store. Picked up...

1L Rhizo
1L Zym
250ml PK

and I was going to get the Boost because being on sale, it was cheaper than picking up BudXL & a sweetener. BUT....they sold out and won't get anymore for that price (the 1L was $55 off).

So I did pick up 1L BudXL...but I waited on the sweetener. They only had 2 types to choose from. Biotanicare Sweet Raw or Berry. There is Grape and Citrus but it looks like they don't carry them in stock. Debating which to get.....while the Berry sounds tempting, one of the plants I'm growing is Chocolope, which may end up being a weird taste, no?

EDIT, maybe not, I just had thoughts of chocolate covered strawberries. Yeah, I think I'm going berry :)

And I'm kicking myself because I was there a week ago (picking up 5L of A+B that was also $55 off) and they had stock then of Boost....I knew I was going back this week and figured I'd just pick it up then. Oh well, live and learn not to procrastinate next time.

I used the Botanicare Grape on some Querkle and was happy with it. I also had some Super Lemon Haze going too at the same time. My suggestion is to use RAW if you have more than 1 flavor/strain going, unless you don't mind them being very similar in taste. Myself I wanted there to be a marked difference and after a while the SLH started smelling like the Querkle which I was not cool with. So I went with Raw on them and Grape on the Querkles from then on and it came out great.

BudXL is only 1ml per L which is nice because it makes it fairly cheap. If you use the sweetner at the suggested dosage it's probably more expensive than the BudXl because you use so much more.

Anywho unless you dont mind them all coming out with a similar taste/smell on your different strains i would do RAW. That's just IMHO though, i bet if you use the berry you could loose most if not all that Chocolope flavor which i definitely wouldn't want to do. The Raw will allow your individual strains taste to come through more. The berry would be bomb on like a Blueberry or Shiskaberry strain or something similar.

AZ, how much sweetener would I need to get for my grow (5 plants)? They are $30 for 1L. Since I decided to do Chocolope (2 plants) and Blueberry (3 plants), then I think I'll have to buy both Raw and Berry. Would 1L container of each be enough? Do I use it as per their application instructions or do you modify it for a coco MJ grow?

Vegetative Phase10 ml3.78 L (1 Gal)
Transition Phase10-15 ml3.78 L (1 Gal)
Fruiting & Flowering/Reproductive Phase15-20 ml3.78 L (1 Gal)

10 ml of Sweet per gallon of water will achieve 38 ppm Magnesium (Mg) and 51 ppm Sulfur (S).

Also, being I haven't done this before I need help deciding A) which pots to buy and B) what size. I do like to go away to the cottage on weekends (not so much now as summer is winding down) but more for future reference....if I am going to be away 2-3 days and I am watering by hand, what's my best course of action? (reminder, I'm using Coco and Perlite).

I wouldnt use it until you start using the Bud XL which will be about 2 weeks after flipping the lights to 12/12. Once the stretch is over they have transitioned to flowering and at that b time begin the BudXL & Sweetner.

How much you use is up to you, id say 10 to 20 ml per gal. The more you use the more flavor you'll prob get & more $ it will cost you lol

If you are going away do not mix in any pearlite. It will make your mix dry out too fast for your 2 -3 day trips. Only put a layer on the bottom of the pot.

I am using 3 Gal "Dirt Pots" which are similar to smart pots and I dont plan to transplant. Anything smaller and you might want to transplant into a bigger pot to finish. So in other words i am using 3 Gal dirt pots (smartpots) from start to finish, no transplanting, and no pearlite mixed in. 100% Canna Coco Coir

So you're putting your germinated seed straight into those?

Would Air Pots not be a good idea? dry out the coco too fast or is that ok for me? The one's I'm looking at are 3.35 Gal/12.5 L (Superoots Air Pot)

Technically you are not supposed to germinate seeds anymore. Just plant straight into media about 1/4" deep and keep moist. ou should be breaking dirt in 3 - 10 days. That's the "new school" way. No germination needed if you using pricy designer expensive seeds. Such as ...---> https://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/

That's the only place i would ever suggest to anyone of my own accord. From personal experiences in life both positive & neg.... be forewarned not all breeders are same quality though.

Air Pots... Maybe but consider the consistency of the coco... Could it come out the holes? If so i wouldn't do it.

To be real with you - especially considering your planned 2 - 3 day trips. You should buy a timer & pump & some line/ drip steaks before anything else. Still hand water to get "dialed in" and figure out how much water they need. Buy the digital timer that goes down to the minute, you'll thank yourself.

You are majorly shorting yourself by not automating the watering in more ways than 1. Most notable for you, your trips to the cabin or whatnot. I assume you have a timer for the lights, right? The watering one will be just as impearitive to really ensure sucess after all the $ you've already spent!

Happy Growing & Welcome to the endless money pit! :fire:

Edit: with Coco the faster they dry out the better, trick is you have to water again right after it needs it. Not days later. So you'll be constantly adjusting the watering timers for this, some guys are watering 5 times a day in coco. That would be a bitch to do from the cabin.

Ay Carumba! Tell me about it, I wanted to keep my costs down for my first grow and I've already spent over 2 grand..lol.

I've decided I'm not going back to the cottage until the spring now anyway, so hand watering will be sufficient. All I have to buy now is my coco, perlite, pots and seeds.

I have a place about a 10 min drive away that I can walk into and buy seeds. They carry a lot of the major producers. I'm in Canada, so it's legal to sell them here (at least in my province).

Here are the air pots I was talking about...

Volume: 12.5L / 3.35 Gallons Diameter: 262mm / 10.3” Height: 295mm / 11.6” The Superoots Air-Pot is a recyclable, reusable plastic container that actively enhances the quality of the root systems of plants. This revolutionary approach to containerizing tree stock produces fabulous, non-spiralling root systems that are impossible to develop in any other available container. Made of recycled HDPE, the Superoots Air-Pot is circular in shape with a perforated sidewall, which is textured like an egg carton. There are no flat surfaces to deflect roots and start the spiralling process. The inward pointing cones direct the root towards the hole in the outward pointing cones where the air density in the soil is too great and therefore the apical cells at the very tip of the root dehydrate, or are air-pruned. The response of the plant to this air-pruning is to send out more roots to compensate for the loss, which leads to the build up of a dense and fibrous radial root system in a dramatically short time. The real benefits of using Superoots Air-Pots are that they: Eliminate root circling. Reduce growing time on the nursery. Simplify production. Double - at least - the "shelf-life" of stock. Reduce losses dramatically. Ensure Superior Performance in Extremes of Weather. The Air-Pot is made of recycled HDPE.

They have soil in them, so I can't see why coco wouldn't work. Isn't soil finer than coco? Just put a layer of perlite at the bottom and I should be golden, no?

EDIT, I'm currently reading an article on them from 420magazine that's saying great things about them......

DOUBLE EDIT, Nah, I just changed my mind....read there wasn't much of a difference in plant size but it was messier :( Back to the original idea of reg pots...lol

No the Canna coco is pretty damn fine. Reg pots would be wayyyyyyy less messy. Go with Hydroton instead of perlite at the bottom if possible. And by all means def go to the place down the road for seeds! Infinitely better then over the net, lucky Canadians!

Can't do hydroton here, I can't find it in stores.....only perlite.

Oh, I forgot to mention, my shipment arrives tomorrow (tent kit and some), so I'll be setting it up over the next few days. Just have to figure out the best config. :)

Also decided to get a 400W MH bulb & another 600W HPS for back up. Originally I was going to just use a 600W HPS for the whole grow. Also changed the sunlift grow yoyo hangers to Sungrip/progrip hangers (better quality)

In terms of pots, these are my 2 main options then....I wish they had a 3 gal, but they don't. If I go with the second it's going to be a tight fit for 5-6 plants in my 3x3 tent. Thoughts/recommendation?

Outside Diameter: 10" (25.4 cm) Outside Diameter: 10" (25.4 cm) Height: 9" (22.86 cm) Max Dry Volume: 539 cu.in. Max Liquid Volume: 2.33 gal (liquid) (8.83 l)
or
Outside Diameter: 11 7/8" (30.16 cm) Height: 11" (27.94 cm) Max Dry Volume: 900 cu.in. Max Liquid Volume: 3.9 gal (liquid) (14.76 l)

I am trying 3 Gallon "Dirt Pot" , these exactly right here. I like them so far, better quality then the "smart pot" IMO.

http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-HGDB3-Reusable-Planting-3-Gallon/dp/B004S0KVBG

I like the size proportion of them as well and 8 fit in a 2x4 table. It's a tight fit though. I'd say 5 tops if your working with a 3x3 tent.

Good call on the 2 bulbs, using the MH during veg & HPS for Bloom would be optimal.

Those are the EXACT pots I was talking about earlier but was concerned about the mess factor.

But yeah, after seeing those root developments, I'm going to have to get those air pots. They sell them at "my store".....so that's perfect/convenient.

This might seem like a dumb question (but I am a noob at this)....with the water run off, what do you do with that?...lol. Do I mop/clean it up in my tent (there is an extra lining at the bottom of my tent that's washable) or leave it and let it evaporate/absorb? Or do I put anything underneath the pot like a saucer?

Water slow and not right at the edge of the pot. Should be no mess.

You can use a saucer or catch pan under your pots for runoff, shop vac it out, or just leave it depending on how much is there, though your lining will get dirty.

I personally let it all run out on the floor, shop vac what I can, then leave the rest. Haven't had any problems.

Just came across this....

http://www.cannagardening.ca/growguide

Talk about making it easy :)

But, my question is, are these calculations 100% for MJ?

And since I'm using Bud XL instead of Boost, is it treated as the same or should I be using a different amount of Bud? And lastly, (more for AZCannaman), when and how much of the sweetener do I use with this table/growguide?
