The one thing that made a Huge Difference?

I was hoping some of you guys would share with us the one (or more) thing that stands out in your mind as having made a huge difference either for good or bad with respect to your grow. Something that you discovered or learned that suprised you because it ran counter to your expectations, or it was so far out it never occurred to you.

An example of this for me (though a minor one) would be that I found it to be my experience that not only did I get similiar results with my bubble cloner when I didn't use any kind of rooting hormone (powder or dip)--I actually got superior results when I stopped using them. I would not conclude from this that it is better to not use rooting hormones than it is to use it, but I would certainly conclude that it is far less important than one could be led to believe.

Or another example though perhaps a bit off topic would be vaporization.
It's something I wish I had learned about in the sixties believe me. About ten years ago I figured out that with a little skill set, like starting to inhale before you put the gun up to the bong, I could just replace my butane lighter with a Sears Industrial quality heat gun (build by Stinel in Switz. ceramic heating element, reostate etc) using the included reducing head and set it exactly at 385 degrees) This has been the best hundred bucks I have ever spent on anything in my life. I just fill my regular glass bong up with ice cubes and lodge a bud in the bowel and get way higher than I ever did smoking-- and use less herb--and the remains can be eaten the way it is and it will get you higher than you really want to be (which is the best way to be high) I would say that I have maybe smoked two joints total since discovering vaporization--and all they did was remind me how much it sucks to smoke herb--in comparison.

Another thing that suprized me is how much of a difference RO water makes in my area--I guess this depends on your water source--but for me--wow. I first figured this out when I used some rain water that had collected in a barrel for my garden just because I had left it out and it was there. All of a sudden it was like the girls were unleashed.

Interesting discussion and I agree with the rooting hormone thing, I didn't necessairly observe worse performance just not any better performance.

Might huge difference is that by using 1000 ppm hydrogen peroxide in soil with hydro fertilizers that I got hydro performance (.8 gram/watt or about 4 oz/month with a 250 HPS). I'm able to water/fertilize the plants every day because of the high oxygen levels. By pushing the nutrients they act as more of an ebb and flo rather than soil yet can go up to 3 days without watering if needed. By never having the fertilizers to high at any one time I avoid tip burn. It's also cheap and silent.

So my huge difference is using hydro techniques with soil to get hydro yields.

Good idea, anomaloustango...I will try this in my little bubbler cloner that I get 100% sucess with using Clone-it.. I never though of not using it!

Here, here... :hump:5 months ago I bought an SSV vape... best $250 I've ever spent.. no more butane... and way big hits!
no throat goobers in the morning either. No tar/nicotine!
Your way is much more creative though.LOL!

I guess the thing most suprising to me, in my short time growing, is that monster amounts of nutrients (higher EC) do not improve yield.

Water, air & CO2 (light & temps) improve yield..:leaf: Not more nutes.
