The perfect pot for seedling germination...is free (nearly)

I decided I was going to improvise a new pot when I did my latest grow, as I wanted to try a narrow, deep pot to start one of my plants....see if a deep tap root makes any obvious difference to the plant (taller, better rootball etc).

Anyway, after hunting around the house I decided to chop the top off a 1.5 litre coke bottle, burn loads of holes in the bottom of it, and cover it in foil. I left an inch or so at the bottom without any foil.

It worked great, dried up nice and evenly...and not too slow that the roots drown! I was growing Lemon OG in it, which was doing really well...though that could just be genetic)

So, part of the reason I think it works so well is the little window at the bottom of the pot. It gives you the perfect view of your growing roots when they get deep enough so you can see how healthy they are, and when it's ready for its first transplant.

I have no idea if having a deep pot is going to work out better, but now I've used a see-through pot I'm going to stick with it (only as a first pot though of course. I'm using a proper big smart pot for the last transplant....

It's free too if you have them lying around the house...

Just thought I'd share...see if anyone else likes see-through pots and soil....or if it's just me being random...
