The tale of the possible oaxacan bagseed

Hi all,
I should start by mentioning that this is my first time growing and it's more of an hobby than anything else.
It all started when a friend came back from mex with some seeds.
As I mentioned in my other thread I have only managed to get 1 female out of 8 plants. Obviously I wasn't pleased with that so I decided to try and get some clones out of it.
I built an aero cloner following the excellent info on this site.
Here is the aero cloner and what happened about 2 weeks after starting it. (all clones rooted)
cloner.jpgcloner_roots.jpg

Ok so at this point I found myself with a mother plant on the balcony flowering despite the very long days

mother.jpgmother_flower.jpg

and a bunch of clones that rooted and needed attention.
I decided to go dwc as for some reason I think it will suit me.
I went ahead and built a single plant bucket with the first test clone in it and then I built a larger rez for the other 6 clones.
I have decided to use the lucas formula which I just started using yesterday and this is day 3 of the clones living in their new house.

I forgot to mention that I'm trying to do all this with cfl's. I have some normal full spectrum daylight bulbs called biobulbs (about 30w) and some warm cfls(about 25w).
Realizing that the light was probably not going to be enough and not being able to go for proper hps for heat and ventilation restriction I also bought a 120w cfl ecolight.
I'll post a pic of the lighting in the next post as I am on the 5 pics limit on this one :)

Hi,
as promised a pic of the lights :)
grow_overview_lights.jpglights.jpg

I hope you'll enjoy this grow as much as I am enjoying learning about it :)

Ah just to let you guys know, I don't mind and actually would like to encourage people to post in my journal.
Anything, questions, suggestions or anything else is welcome :)

cheers

good growin gigi, lookin nice and healhty. watch out for your bigger 120w cfl blocking the light path of the smaller cfl positioned above it... may want to reposition that smaller cfl for better light distribution... maybe move them all a bit closer?

good luck with the grow!

Hi thanks morp but the pic is deceiving, they are actually side by side. I will probably inprove in lighting position as time goes by

Hi Guys,
I have been away for 4 days and I can't believe what I found when I came home, the clones are getting huge, the leaves are way bigger than the mom already, that lucas formula and high oxygenated water seem to work wonders.

HI,
yeah thanks I'm definitely having a blast it's all taking off at incredible rate.
Here are my babies now, 2 weeks into the dwc.
looking at the rate of growth I decided to do some lst the first on the left had lst yesterday the others just now.
To me they look great what do you think?

Hi Guys,
here is another update to my grow, I have bought another air pump, now I have 1 5w pump and 1 2.5w pump in my big tub. lots of bubbles everywhere!!!

The plants seem to love their new environment, the only thing that I am not really sure about is the fact that I am getting purple leaf stems and I am not sure if it's a deficiency or just the strain, maybe some of you could enlighten me.

The ppm is around 1200 using the Lucas formula and my ph is stable at 6.1 hasn't moved since the beginning, should I lower it a bit? should I get the ppm a little bit higher since the plants are getting big?

In the meantime I am doing a lot of lst, I am going to try to create a web of plants at the bottom, trying to do an horizontal grow.

The plants have been on veg for about 2 full weeks, I am thinking of putting them on 12/12 in the next few days and I will keep lst them until the end of the stretch.

Hopefully I should get a lot of bud sites in the light once they start budding.

what do you guys think? is it looking ok?

Here are some pictures of the latest.

i am almost positive it is genetic, you might want to increase the nitrogen a little, "emerald" is what your looking for. great job!

ps i was in merced this weekend and was smoking with my friend and his dad's friend jim. jim had a bag of really descent mex. i pulled two of the plumpest seeds out and put them to germ a couple hours ago! you've inspired me. thank you

Thank you,
I think I will up the nutes a little bit and maybe try and take the PH down a slight bit and see if the red goes.
I also think I will go to 12/12 tonight as the speed these plants are taking off is impressive, it's becoming a forest in there.
The stems are getting really thick and they are looking very very nice indeed.

Here are some pics from this morning after I lst them even more last night.
as expected all the tops and leaves have turned to the light. the closet is getting full!!

Glad I have inspired you sk3tch3r, you after all have inspired me on the other thread :)

Hi guys and girls,
another quick update.
I have decided to up the nutes a little bit and take the ph down a little bit.
Just to give an overview, the plants are not drinking heavily right now, only the ph has been going up very slowly(I think that means they are using water and nutes) the ppm has been stable at around 1180 and the ph today was at 6.21. temps in the room are about 77 with the door closed and drop to 70 with the door open.

I decided to replace a gl of water with full strength lucas formula and adjusted ph to 5.8. That in itself in an 70ltr reservoir is not much but I don't want to go mental as the plants are looking great.

The weird thing is the lucas formula at full strength is supposed to read at about 1350ppm mine read at 1190ppm, I have ordered a ppm test liquid to figure out what my meter runs at(.5, .7 or whatever) it will get here tomorrow and then I can be more precise. Anyway I have put 10ml micro and 20ml bloom (instead of 8m/16m) that reached about 1350. It might have something to do with the fact that my water starts at 350, maybe the water content and the nutes neutralize each other. Then I have taken the ph down to 5.4 as the res was a bit high.

Now the res is running at 1240-1250 and the ph is at 6.0. Plants are looking good.
I have also made a small fan with a computer fan and a standard power supply from an hard drive that gives out 12v. the 2 just plugged into each other. I have covered the fan with some metal net so the leaves don't get in there and placed it inside my closet(remember I have no exhaust nor intake and I am using cfl) just for air circulation.
Fresh air comes from me opening the door when I am home and nothing else.
here is a pic of the fan and the psu. all very simple:)
Library - 4900.jpgLibrary - 4903.jpg

I have a question about that, should I have the fan running while the light is off or should I time it with the lamps?

Also, the LST is doing wonders to my babies, I can see additional branches shooting everywhere and the growth seems to be incredible.

Here are some pics of what I mean(I know you might be getting an indigestion of pics by now but I am loving it)
An overview of my closet

and details of the new branches that are growing because of LST

I have the feeling I have managed to find a decent formula for the light and space I have available. I think the only technique that could be better in here is probably a scrog... I might try that next as the mother has definitely gone back into veg and has stopped flowering :)

I am definitely not an experienced grower but I hope this journal will be beneficial to some people that want to be able to grow in such a small space and with no possibility to use a more powerful light :)

Fingers crossed I'll manage to take this to the end.

Till next time....

Hi Guys,
I have started 12/12 yesterday, 2 and half weeks after starting.
I have the feeling it might have been to much of a short veg time.

Anybody have any thoughts?

Also anybody have any thoughts about leaving the fan on when the lights are off?

cheers

there will be some stretch for the first 3 weeks or so which will fill in your space a lot. i live fans on 24/7,
