Longtime lurker, first time poster. Hi
I am growing six plants indoors, the maximum allowed by the great state of California for treating my Insomnia, and I want to maximize the weight yield of my plants. I would immediately jump to the sea of green method, but my limitation is not square footage, but plant #.
I often hear that it is most efficient to have a two-month Veg period for a better yield over time. If I have it right, the sea of green theory is that by vegging many small plants for only two months, rather that the full natural course of wild cannabis, you will be able to harvest a crop more frequently. By having a quicker turnover, you will yield more weight per square foot over say, a 20 month period.
I have also heard that pruning is not only a way to manage height, but a method to increase the yield of a plant. To my understanding, this is because pruning the apical meristem (growing tip) of the plant induces the splitting of the pruned stalk into two new growing tips. This procedure doubles the number of future nodes, and thus increases the area of the plant that can generate bud upon flowering. This can be done many times to multiply the number of growing tips.
However, there is a drawback: pruning retards growth, and (as I understand) is usually reserved for outdoor growing, when plants are vegged for longer periods, and the plant has ample time to recover.
My question then, is:
Although pruning retards growth, could a method of heavy pruning ( in order to induce a higher amount of nodes per plant), combined with a 3 month veg period to compensate for the growth retardation, produce more bud over a 20 month growth period than a plant that I only veg for 2 months?
In other words,
Can a method of 3 months veg with heavy pruning yield more weight than 2 months veg alone, assuming I have 20 months (this would allow me to do either the 3 month method 4 times, or the 2 month method 5 times).
Height is not a limitation for me.
I am running a single 1000w HPS light, and growing in soil.
