Thinking about greenhouse grow

That's a decent looking greenhouse but $2000?

I bought this Shelter Logic for around $100. The shelves were another $50 for both sides. It's going on 3 - 4 years since I set it up. When the cover gives out I'm just going to get a roll of 6mm poly to re-cover the frame. It might not be the best quality but it's survived several windstorms and a few tree branches landing on it. But I'm a cheap ass. I try and spend the minimal amount of money needed for the task. But it performs the purpose I purchased it for.

Mine was not finished or deburred tubing. Not labeled or marked in a legible manner. Too many single point screw connections and missing kit parts as well as actual needed parts to stabilize. Over 30' of guidelines and 18 additional stakes to almost secure. #35mph winds are beating it bad. No means to secure main opening.

Holding weight of snow now. Vertically sound. Lateral002.jpg integrity is trash. My experience here.

That sucks. The frame on mine is finished and all the parts were there.

Yours is much bigger than mine. The quality of the frame isn't as much of an issue with a smaller footprint greenhouse like mine. Size matters. :bigjoint:

I suggest the older hoop frame carports from them. Rock solid frames. 5 mil 20'x200' contractor plastic and good waterproof double sided tape. Cheapest reliable builds I've seen in the commercial or hobby market.

That is a good quality greenhouse, 10mm thick laminate is way above average, Im curious why they gave it a 20lb snow load limit though that is extremely low.

I would say that is a good size for 2 plants, but $2grand for 2 plants is a big investment. A $100 hoophouse will be just as effective, just not as pretty
Well the money makes no difference to me really, so spending $2, 000 for growing just 2 plants makes no difference to me @ all to be perfectly honest.

I just know every time I have done a indoor grow. I get a little over a 1 lb everytime with 4 plants in 10 gallon pots. I just wanted to grow a couple plants outside & not have to pay the electricity bill anymore. I might not buy it because it might not hold up to well being in the snowy winter maybe.. It was just a thought really

This is my greenhouse. It is not worth heating in the winter but it gives me a good jump in spring with the hardening off process after starting the seeds in the basement under lights.
The dog and cat seem to be thriving without heat.

Money might not be important but you can have a greenhouse as functional for much less than $2000. Wouldn't you rather keep that money for yourself? Just saying. Some of the wealthiest people are the biggest penny pinchers. That's why they have money.

The dog is actually a ceramic cast that usually goes in the greenhouse for the winter. The cat is real though. It is surprising how warm it gets in there when the sun is out. Today it is -9 c here outside but it is 34 c in the greenhouse. But it does go down to just above freezing at night.

Pvc hoop houses are inexpensive, easy to build (any size that fits your needs and available space) and work wonderfully. Mine served me well this past year and is still standing after the deracho in August, several other severe wind storms, God knows how many thunderstorms and now is still doing fine with all this dang snow.
I also am in Illinois and had my best year of outdoor growing thanks to the hoop house known as, "Parts Unknown!". It was easy to build and the way we built it it is very secure. You may want to look into building one vs buying a small one. Ours is sixteen by twenty four with a height of ten feet and cost way less than $1000.00. I freaking love it!!!
This is how it looked in June 2020 when the plants went in.20200627_175957.jpg
Then this is what it looked like as harvest started in October (and continued through to the beginning of December)20201021_074307.jpg20201016_112223.jpg
These are all photo period plants. There are five in total and they filled the whole space! I would not go with autos when we have such a great, long growing season here in Illinois. You can grow some big girls here!

If you are interested in building one like this and have any questions, feel free to ask.

View attachment 4819319What's up guys, just seen the post.. if you don't mind, I'm thinking of starting a green house as well, what kind of plastic do you recommend to conceal what's inside? How good are those green plastic ones off Amazon? Thanks... Something like this.
Check out Farm Plastic Supply. They have everything you need, good prices and fast shipping. They sell on Amazon but as I recall the prices are better when you just go through their website. They have many different types of plastic with various degrees of translucency.
I like the IRAC film we got from them. But you can see through it from above. Incredibly durable stuff.
I would order everything you need at the same time as it will help save on the shipping.
Good luck friend!

Hi I'm thinking about buying the 8' x 8' Palram Glory Greenhouse for my backyard this spring to save on electricity because I'm a Illinois medical marijuana card holder & home owner..

I was wondering, do you think this greenhouse will work for a spring & summer months backyard grow? Oh & also is the 8' x8' only big enough for 2 good size plants or more..?

I was only planning on probably only growing 2 plants in the greenhouse anyway.

This is exact greenhouse package I'm thinking about buying

Thanks in advance

That will do alright here in Illinois. But you will quickly run out of room. And with the weather we have, buying replacement parts could get pretty pricey.
There's another person, from here in Illinois, who is using one just like that. And as I recall she got crowded out kinda fast.

I had another thought. If you are wanting this type of greenhouse instead of a plastic film covering then harbor freight has a larger one for way less money.

Sight laws here. Or I would not have a greenhouse. Just start earlier indoors and force flower with light dep. My way when I had to hide. Out of hand now. LOL.

I built my own greenhouse and it is working very well for me. I've got an evaporative cooler, bunch of fans, extraction fan and a dehumidifier to help control the environment. Also using a blumat irrigation system with a 60L reservoir which makes life much easier and the plants love it. Going to see how it handles a winter grow as well later on this year.
You have any pictures of your greenhouse?
