5-6 hours 'harvesting'? Can you explain that? I would think harvesting would just be cutting off the pods?

Your analysis explains why most of the opium is produced in places like Afghanistan where labor is cheap.
I have thought about growing a few poppies for myself but opium is ferociously addictive

Harvesting poppies is a LONG and tedious process. and you can never kill the poppy to get a full and proper harvest.
When teh poppies come to age they will shed all of their flowers and form a large Bulb on the top of the plant. some poppies (Afhani purple for instance) will form Multiple Heads and up to 20 Pods per plant. The pods must be Scared with a scaring tool (Multiple razorblades mounted, which can only cut 2MM Deep. usualy 5 or 7 blades.) then they must be Bled and the Tears are harvested. the Poppy tears are harvested with a dull puddy knife. the Raw pink/brown product is Called Opium Puddy.
Phaze One:
#1. Scar poppie pods on all sides. Vertical scars, NOT horizontal. NEVER breach the inner pod, this will cause the tears to leak INTO THE POD.
#2. Wait 4 hours (daytime) or Overnight.
#3. Scrape opium from pods. scrape as much off as possible, without harming the pod.
#4. Store opium Puddy in a cool DRY place.
#5 wait 24 hours and repeat process to Glean the opium from the Pods.
Phaze Two:
#1. in a Pyrex boiling Dish Mix 50 ML water for every Gram of Opium Puddy.
#2 Heat the mixture untill it STEAMS. DO NOT BOIL.
#3 Thoroughly mix the puddy into the water. Beat the shit out of it, DON'T SPILL ANY!! Continue to Mix and steam off water untill the mixture becomes to thick. in the beginning it will smell bitter, like the poppie pods, but near the end it will begine to smell more Harsh, and morphine ish.
#4. set in warm area untill the Raw Opium becomes Crystallized (When all water evaporates). Scrape it up and you have Smokable raw opium.

Actually there is quite a bit of heroin manufatured in south and central america. In South american they even make some white heroin, in central amwerica they make black tar.
The formulas for making dope from opium are simple. anyone who can extract DMT from mimosa or mescaline from san pedro can make heroin or cocaine.

DMT, cocaine and mescaline are present in the plant in finished form ... the preps are simple extractions.
Heroin is semisynthetic. One first extracts morphine. Then the morphine needs to be acetylated (acetic anhydride is the reagent of choice) to get to heroin. cn

I know hundreds of people who can extract DMT, but there are very few I'd say, that can go above and beyond that to isolate the morphine and purify it to an acceptable level that would allow a clean process of conversion by acetylation.

^ This is the method that i spoke about on the first page, but i didn't want to post a link to anything to conclusive...... you never know what people will get into!
there ARE better methods then that, but thats the widley renound, and world used way of extracting Morphine for Heroin..... there IS another extraction done after the Bricks are pressed, before it can be synthesized into heroin.
Heroin is diacetylmorphine, Bayer Heroin was 80% diacetylmorphine with around 20% opiod contamination (Codine, Thebaine and Oripavine). PURE herion would be 100% diacetylmorphine, some Hisenberg, Breaking Bad shit.... i dont think it is possible. the best Heroin i have ever heard of runs 87% Heroin, White China #5. it makes snow look impure.....
P.S: Most Lime / Amonia heroin runs 60-70%.... pound for pound its worth the same, which is why people only purify it to 70% instead of pushing 100%..... its the Impurities + Diseases that kill people.....

Back in the day (when I had access to a well-equipped lab) a fellow I knew found some poppies by the side of the highway ... and gifted me with a coupla pounds of poppy straw. I extracted this with ammoniated methanol and chromatographed the resulting goo. (Had a tab of Morphine Sulfate to act as the control for thin-layer chrom.) Got half a gram of pure morphine that way.
I then could not leave well enough alone and stewed it up with acetic anhydride and some pyridine (catalyst). I was impressed by how hard it was to get the second acetyl group on. Ended up with 550 mg of diamorphine base ... even after chromatography of this product and charcoal treatment, it was light brown. Pure by nmr.
It lived in my freezer until about 6 years ago, when I smoked a dab to deal with what would become quite the root canal. One dab led to another ... that vial lasted me about 2 months.
Pure heroin smoke is so smooth and tasty, and it hits just like IV without the annoying vein rape.
...A year later I got into oxycodone in a big way. I'm done with opiates.

im a LONG term adict with opoids. i take 150 Mg Tramadol / day. its in a 12 hour release pill format.
1 75 Mg pill every 12 hours. i get about 6 Mg of Codine / Hour (+3~ G's of AAA Medi weed). i have for the last 8 years.... when i spot taking them i dont start shaking and sweatting, like Full withdrawls. but i DO get VERY sick to my stomach, start to itch and ache, head feels like its going to explode..... i sure as all hell feel it.
its MUCH better than the alternative. which it live with my displaced, fused 6'th lumbar vertebra AND my compression damaged neck...... it SUCKS being in multiple vehicle crashes....
P.S: I just realized i kinda rationalized opiate use... but i need this stuff. Recreational use (like yours ended up..) is ALWAYS a bad thing with a bad ending.
