Thinking of switching from 1X 1000W to 2X 600W, bad idea?

Hello,

I have been growing successfully for a while with a 1000w HPS light but am thinking about switching to dual 600W for better coverage. Are there any disadvantages to this? Looking for experienced input here. I dont want the quality to suffer or the yield. Will I lose density? I am using an Ebb and Grow with 8 buckets currently connected in a 10X10 space. Room is climate controlled at 75F. What do you think?

you would have a better idea then me but it will probably depend on the brands but if the quality of the bulbs and ballast are the same i would of thought 2 600 hps would be better then a 1000 watt one. if you have the money why not

well you gain in wattage and coverage (depending on how high your light is ) .. so if your ok with the extra cost .. why not?

that chart is useless but id say two 600 would be much better than 1 1000 get lights closer more of a spread with better lumen reaching to plants, room may get a little hotter thou?

Yeah, people say a lot of things on here they back up with personal opinions and conjecture rather than facts or experience.

Personally I would use a light rail on the 1000w fixture... get better coverage and keep the util bills down.

people shouldent ask for advice then if they dont want personal experiance,

dont see them going and browsing the net for facts?? people are to lazy these days

Let me explain the chart...light output is shown in foot-candles, which is a measurement of lumens per square foot. Lux is measured in lumens per square foot. Now is it useful?

thanks for the opinions folks. I am aware of the light saturation being less with the 600w but that "should" be OK now. I normally grow big ass trees in dirt but since I switched to hydro (ebb and grow) these things grow so bloody fast I am going to start flower almost from clone so they should be short and easy to penetrate with light. I put eight plants down and vegged for two weeks then into flower, they are between 3 and 4 feet tall now, just10 days late,r and the Blueberry is about 4ft wide! Unreal!! So I figure if I start flowering as soon as they are well rooted I can just have MORE and SMALLER plants. Making the 2X 600W doable. This jungle is out of control and is gonna be alot of fun to maintain over the next 50 days. Wish me luck!

Your way better off running the two 600s. You can even get a splitter and attach to your 1000w ballast and run the two 600s off the one ballast. Trust me it is WAY better and more efficient than running a 1000w on a rail.

yeah I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a couple of 600w ballasts. I will change everything out when I dont need a machete to get in the room :) Got a smokin deal on two 600w digital ballasts, two 6" air cooled hoods, light covers and 4 bulbs (2MH and 2 HPS) for $500. I think I got a deal?
