someday yes our earth will go to shit and it will be a test of our survival capabilities

us having a date of this event is redonkulous

question this...has our ability to record seismic events increased in relation to their occurrence?

The continents are always on the move. Just like the moon is slowly moving away from earth which regulates the tides and our own orbit and axis tilt. Just like the sun has a finite amount of energy and it will eventually burn out. Random shit happens and for us to think we're imune to what Mother Nature can do is fool hardy.

Well my theory is this if you put giant holes in the earth to strip it of its natural resources, sooner or later those holes and empty spots have to fill with something. We have all the options to go greener then we are now and the car companies and government turn there heads cause they all think not in our lifetime well 2012 is very close and the natural disasters keep getting closer and closer.

i dont know...i would never assume that we wont see the end of the world. really, we dont know when its going to happen. i dont really put much stock in the 2012 end of the world theory, but how do we know? the world could very well end tomorrow for all we know. i think that people tend to say "oh the world will end eventually, just not in our time" because the thought of the world ending is quite scary. but it could happen, really, at any moment it wants without notice ;-) but i dont know yet if these quakes are something to worry about. i keep reading everywhere that nothing out of the norm has happened, and that really, the only reason it *seems* like a lot is because of our technology and how quick info gets passed around via the net, etc. so im just going to wait and see. i would prefer if the end of the world could wait until after i see alice in wonderland tomorrow...but im hoping that im relatively safe :bigjoint:

By the time the world ends we will all be living in a giant space ship, Wall-e style. We'll be like all the passenges, not even knowing of earth and we wont care to see it turn into a life-less rock.

Mother nature doesn't give a toss if we care that the world is going to end we are just ants on her big hairy back. A speck in the sands of time.

It's not how hard the wind is blowing..... It's WHAT the wind is blowing. If you get hit by a volvo I don't care how many sit-ups you can do, you're dead.

So far there was something like 52 earthquakes around the world today, and thats just 3.0 and above...I have a lovely little app from the usgs integrates with google maps to show you the world's geological activity. My setting are to alert me to quakes magnitude 3.0 or greater...got 52 alerts today.

This is actually a light day. Leading up to the 6.5 a few weeks ago off of norcal and the one in haiti and the one in chile there was much higher earthquake activity, I remember seeing my alerts in the 100's around those times.

The world always movin, thats why I am always groovin...

Honestly, I have been through every natural disaster, tornados, earthquakes, sand storms, blizzards, hurricanes, inaccurate artillery support, the least worrisome, the least stressful is earthquakes, bar none. At least to me.
