This is Why I Carry a Weapon !

Police investigate California salon shooting:

I'm not saying that EVERYONE should carry a weapon, but I have had quite a bit of firearm training and I am very comfortable carrying one. Do I go out everyday looking to be a hero? No, but I would attempt to protect myself in a situation like this and I feel like everyone in that salon would have been grateful if someone managed to take out this idiot quickly. Even if someone attempted to return fire and was unsuccessful at taking him down, it may have been enough to make the suspect flee and at the same time save lives.

These sort of shootings are becoming more and more common these days, and in my opinion, if more people were properly trained and carried weapons it would make some of these people think twice before committing an act like this.

I'm sure some will disagree, but I choose to arm myself as I will do everything in my power to NOT fall victim to some homicidal maniac like this.

Eight people were killed in this incident. May the victims RIP!

OR, now hear me out on this one, stop selling guns to fucking idiots. Hell you need a special permit here in Canada to own a hand gun. If you get mugged here, it'll probably be by knife or just nothing at all. Restrict the fuck out of guns. Only thing a civilian should own is a shot gun or a rifle.

Lowering the barrier to entry for having weapons only raises the bar on how powerful the weapons being carried are.

yea cause everyone in canada carries tec9s. Have a mental health check on everyone who wants to buy a gun, have a special license complete with a 2 to 3 week training course just to own different types of guns and you'll see a reduction in crime with gun use. Does it really matter? Well when you get mugged by a knife you can run away, when you get mugged by a gun you're fucked. There will still be illegal guns around but those will mostly be held by gangsters and the like who don't really want to hurt anyone except other gangsters.

I hear ya. I'm licensed to carry but my local chief can and has placed the restriction of "for hunting and target shooting only" on my permit. As for the ban all guns senario, criminals will always get them and us law abbiding citizens will be screwed by not being able to protect ourselves. Cops are to big and bulky to carry one around to protect me.

I dunno about you but I've never needed a gun. People here own illegal guns too yet there are barely any shootings. Why? Because its mostly the gangsters who own them and they don't go around doing petty shit like muggings, robberies, or really anything unless you've done something to them to warrant it. They're just interested in selling pot, meth and protecting them selves. People who do shit like house robbing/hold ups and muggings are just junkies who need money. If there was no way for them to get a gun, they'd have to know someone who gets them illegally. Illegal gun prices would skyrocket, quickly

I don't think having a gun would've helped much in this situation, from other stories it sounds like the guy was an ex-cop and was wearing body armor.

Illegal guns are rampant here also and there are shootings all the time. If somone pulled a knife on me it sure would be nice to pull out my SW99 and place the barrel on the tip of the assholes nose.

Infairness all you have to do is look at the concrete statistics. Gun crime is up to 5x more prevelent in developed countries with less gun control.
(I know its Wiki, but it is referenced)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_crime

On the same page it states its estimated gun crime costs the US roughly $100 billion dollars a year.

Less guns/permit system clearly equals lower gun crime.

I love guns by the way, so dont take it personally, just there needs to be a reasonable level of control on them too (like realistically who really needs an M4 in their house or a Mac10 for hunting?).

I would have to agree on carrying...on news they said all people who were shot appeared to be taking cover....in that sense I'd rather stand up and die fighting rather than lay there and get capped anyway.
