This is just incredible. I've read about what volcanoes can do but this is purely beyond belief. A lake so deadly that it calcifies almost everything it touches. Here's the link

Oh this reminds me of elementary school when some girl went on a trip and came back with pics of calcified people...
 
Say what? You have to be kidding me. Wow, now that is unreal.
I know I saw a documentary about it...an ash storm from an eruption was the cause.. I'm pretty sure the entire city was buried under meters of toxic scalding volcanic ash... I'll find it and post the link.

Looks like the water has a really high reflectivity so the birds (hypothesized) crash into it in confusion. Then because of the water content they end up preserved like this when they eventually decompose. Still very interesting.
