Hey all you outdoor growers!! wanted to give a good warning to everyone going hiking for there grows this year, USE TICK REPELLENT!!! at least 30% deet bug spray...

so far this year i have found more then 40 ticks crawling on my body after hiking around, and this time i lost track of one little bastard, and he ended up giving me lime disease. SO FOR REAL be careful check yourself every 2-3 hours after you leave your spot, and then shower and wash your clothing!!!

yep ive found quite a few! so bad in fact that i shelled out the $ for this stuff http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ANQVYU
im sure there are others that would do the same

ive went out once since i applied it and no tics!!! it lasts for 6 weeks or 6 washings

also if you take your dog out be sure to treat them with the good stuff. they will fall off of the dog
i found 4 or 5 around my house and i strip and check myself at the door, immediately taking my cloths to wash so they had to have come from her

hate those gross little bastards.

great advice. a neighbor of mine was bit by a tic around 9 yrs ago dear hunting in fall. yep, developed Lime Desease. Smoking Helps a small bit for him. but hes in pretty rough shape. before he was bit, he was healthy as can be. hes only 37 or so now.

I hate ticks. I hear it's the deer tick that gives you the Lyme desease.

I caught a baby rabbit in my field a few years ago just messing around and found a deer tick on me when I let it go. First and only one I've ever seen but they are getting worse I hear.

I have found them sunk in many times. They are very sneaky. One of those creatures that you wonder why even exist.

Do whatever you can do to avoid ticks... In some cases it helps to have someone check where you can't see (ex. your hair, back etc..)

The little bastards hang on the very ends of vegetation waiting for a victim to brush against......
I was working as a Geologist in the mountains of Colorado almost 20 years ago and a tick crawled into my "inny" belly button and got me...
I was feverish and hallucinating when I found it....... I was hospitalized with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (I had a sustained 102 fever)...
Later I found out that I had gotten Lyme disease also...

Some very unpleasant symptoms...
Body temperature not regulated so I wake up sweating or cold when it's 70 degrees in the room...
Uncontrollable muscle cramps, sometimes both opposing muscles would spasm..
When I go above elevations of 10,000 ft (about where I was when I got bit) I have some of the same symptoms when I was originally bit...
Various nerve issues...

I eventually got Crohn's about 5 years after getting infected.... I do not know if there is any association but you never know!!!

I got 2 on me in the last week-- 1 on my neck and 1 on my head where the hair parted. Disgusting things and they're hard to pull out too. Yuck!

this needs to be a top thread next to the budworm season at the very top of the list. These motherfuckers are everywhere and i am positive a lot of people do not take this serious enough. Including myself until now...

hahaha well with my washing habits it may only last 4 months.

but no, whichever is first. lol. it goes on your cloths, so i have a dedicated change of cloths for deep woods hiking. ill probably reapply it after 5 washings or weeks because im paranoid. its the main ingredient in the stuff i use on my dog. also i saw some generic flea and tick spray at the pet store that was a bit cheaper. i think anything with Permethrin in it would work.

A bit of advice on the deer tick. A deer tick must be on its host for a period of 36-48 hours and must engorge itself with blood in order to pass the enzymes that cause lime disease into the host. A deer tick will have a reddish orange ass unlike the wood tick. If you are bitten by a tick and pull it off before it starts engorging with blood you should be fine. I check myself after each visit to the the patches and have found ticks on meself and my dog. Just got to be vigilante about checking yourself over thorughly and all will be chill. :peace:

B vitamin helps ward off tics and mosquitoes, they have a patch you can apply to your skin 20min before you enter wooded areas also, besides that deet/citrinila (sp?) work and still check after every outing...

yep this shit sucks, first hand exp. Got it when I was 13, still have side effects from it 12 yrs later. It really fucking sucks let me tell you. I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy honestly. This disease is not something to be taken lightly either. It's becoming more common today, it used to be rather rare, although it's not likely you will get it nowadays more than before there is just becoming more awareness about it. You will get ticks on you no matter what precautions you take especially in the spring when they are at their peak. Just be sure to check yourselves regularly guys and gals. It doesn't take but a second to stop every now and again while in the field. Just stop pull up your pant legs and look on you legs, brush pants off on the outside, lift your shirt and rub your head. You may look like a monkey but hey, nobody is watching so who gives a shit right? I often just stop still and wait about 30 seconds while you're still you will feel them crawling on you. Anyways nuff said I think, just use your head, be safe and take precautions. Happy trails

my symtoms include an on and off fevor, tingling in my head, muscle cramps, body aches, some disorientation, and also im very tired all the time. I have a small bulls eye rash right now on my thigh, and its been changing everyday.

Right now im on the Doxycycline, im kinda freaked out, i never thought i would get lymes even if i was bit by a tick. The first couple of days the bite hurt like a bee sting on crack, and then most of my leg was burning. Right now the swelling went down and theres less pain on the bite mark.

im not sure what to expect next, hopefully the meds will set it straight real quick.

They are the worst Ive seen this year, Im up in new england. Everytime Ive been out doing yardwork ive had at least one on me.Ive taken more off me in the last month than in the previous 5 yrs combined. I tuck my pants into my boots, shirt into pants and drown myself in repellant, this seems to work good, none found on me since I started doing that.
