Timber 4VS

Hello everyone. I've been reading post after post. Smart and funny.
Just got my medical marijuana license and I'm now buying equipment to do my first ever grow. I'm only doing a 3'x3' tent. Plenty big for me. I don't want to kill too many plants at once.
Many of you seem to agree that you can't go wrong with Timder lights. Really leaning hard towards the Timber 4vs. Before I found this website I was gonna buy some "top rated" junk I found on Amazon. Clearly I know nothing about LEDs.
I certainly do not want to skimp on lights, but can't afford more than about $600 starting out. I definitely don't know how to put my own board together. With that in mind, any suggestions on lights I should consider instead of the Timber 4vs? Thanks good people.

Timber sells great lights, the 4vs I'm sure would be awesome in that space.

Are you interested in a diy project? You could build a killer light with strips or qbs or cobs for well under $600 if you wanted to do some work.

That light is excellent for your space. Timber makes a quality light that I would recommend. I have a similar DIY setup from cobkits.com you can save a few bucks as @diggs99 mentioned. Either way, good light.

I had a timber 4VL and its a great, well-built light. Used it for one grow then traded for a drum-set. The space I used it in was not inside a tent and found it is better suited to flower a 4'x2' footprint. However, the 4VS would be great for a 3'x3' and will never draw more than 400w or heat up like an HID, which is a major benefit. Here is a shot of the 2 ladies about a week away from harvest.

Cmh is an excellent first grow light as led can be tricky with environment. Led being "cold" light means you need really good controls over temps and rh to get the plant to drink enough to be able to use the light and dont go deficient. If your venting your tent id rec budgeting something like the ac infinity cloudline together with your light cause you are going to need it or something similar. It comes with a controler for environment. If your climate is dry you might even need humidifier. Infact id rec that extractor period, ive only heard good things about it.
Cmh wont yield the same per watt but will yield very similar per ft2. If this is personal stash and you have noone to give you hands on knowledge id go for cmh. It allows you to operate in led temps (higher than hps) and has enough IR to boost transpiration. Its spectrum covers everything.

Led is great aswell but its maybe not the best way to learn, especially if your advice comes from online and not in sitio.

I don't think LED is a bad way to learn, so long as one doesn't go budget mode and get a crap LED. Probably easier to learn it first than to grow with HID and then have to change to LED. I think there is plenty of good info around here from experienced LED growers.

I also have a 315W CMH and it heats up my insulated 16x12 space by 10-12F. I'm actually trying to run the CMH + HLG 550 V2 in a 4x6 now and may put it back in the box as the outdoor temperatures have risen to the 80s and my room is now ranging 70-88. I'm not comfortable running humidity into 60-70% to keep the ladies happy at these temps, nor do not want to invest in AC just so I can run CMH. I'd rather put that money into a cob or QB setup.

Great everyone. I appreciate everyones time and info. At this point, I'm pretty much all in with LEDs. Might be the death of me.
Prior to this, I would never have even considered putting together my own light. Now, after hours and hours of reading, I'm thinking it's quite possible.
Never knew how much I don't know. Who would have thought it could be so difficult to grow a plant. Thanks again for your help.
