Time for the UPGRADE...

Hey all,

I've finally saved up enough hard-earned profit to expand into an outdoor setup, and to give my allergies a final break from having it in the house...

I am open to any and all suggestions regarding construction, insulation, ventilation, etc,.. I am having a buddy of mine who is a general contractor oversee all the subcontractor work, and after this last harvest in about a month, I'm ready to start this thing!!

Rough ideas are basically a 12 foot wide, 10 foot high, and anywhere between 26 to 30 feet long depending on overall cost of materials. I like growing in soil, so that is what I'm sticking with for now, and with two plants per tray, running about 18 on one side, and 18 on the other side, with a decent walk way of four feet for me to go down in the middle. At the far end of the shed, was going to put in a partition and have the other side hold moms, and materials etc,..I am thinking about doing the whole grow veg through flower in the long run, and even though this cuts my overall amount of harvests I'm okay with that.

Other ideas include interior walls painted white, with everything coated with Killz to keep any potential mold etc from developing...What is best type of insulation to user? How to keep the doors to get into the shed light tight? Most importantly too is ventilation with an intake and exhaust system. Would you recommend a small attic to handle all that exchanging? Thanks in advance for all the help.

Id build a work area/lung room right when you walk in. That way you could put a door to the grow area inside the "shed". The work area could have all your ventilation needs, hang ballasts, cut and dry buds, ect... Id stick with 12 foot wide because of plywood but id go with precut 92 5/8 studs for walls.

Thanks for tip booms, will definitely pass it on...I got to be honest I don't know shit about construction...I'm just good at growing lol..So a "lung room" would basically be where you would walk into from outside and then have another door leading into larger flowering chamber? And this room would be for intake, exhaust fans, hanging of all the ballasts, timers...so that way that room would stay hotter, but help keep temp even in flowering room...Obviously I will need a portable ac unit, with a means of drainage for it too..

But you like the idea of killz! on walls, and maybe what some sort of thick rubber on floor...would you try and raise pots off ground for drainage, ease of use, and to keep pot soil temp better? Or just say fuck it?

Killz im not to sure about, they make mold resistant drywall id use that before killz i think. I like 2mil mylar since white isnt nearly as reflective, only cost $50 a roll to replace every 2-3 years. I use rubber roofing for the floor up the walls 6inches. Id just use 2x10s(overkill) or 2x8's for floor joist insulated with R30 for the floor with 3/4 tongue groove floor sheeting, no need to raise pots then. Id probably just put a 4/12 pitch roof on that size building and leave the ceiling open inside and hang carbon filters up there. When you shingle it dont run a ridge vent of any sort. Create a drainage system under the floor before you lay plywood and insulate. I was a residential new home builder for 10 years.

The lung room would be used to create a intake source at the right ambient temperature. You would condition the lung room to make the flower room the right temp. So if its summer out the lung room would have ac running in it and would be cool but winter would depending where you live have heat source to keep flower room at correct temp. Basicly you will fluctuate the tempature in the lung room to keep the flower room a consistant temp. Besides that it would create a way to block light for a door to flower room, you can hang and dry buds, have room to move plants around in it, hang all your fans and ballasts in there to, room for AC/heat source, room for ferts, basicly you will regret not having a lung/work area.

How big of the overall space that I mentioned would you go for the lung room?

Since its going to be 12' wide id make it 10' deep. So a 12'W x 10'L lung room would do the trick i think.
