hey everyone
I will doing my first outdoor grow this summer. Goin to dig 15-20 gallon holes in the ground and fill them with Pro-Mix HP soil.
I will also add some lime to the mix as well as some of those 'water beads' that absorb and hold moisture in case of dry spells.
I am going to plant on a pine/birch forest hillside, south facing, amongst some tall grasses, ferns, and raspberry bushes. Fairly decent light coverage most of the day.
I have been growing indoors now for about 5 or 6 complete harvests and Im ready to try it outside for some big yields hopefully.
My idea is i would like to grow some 13-20 week flowering strains indoors for something really exotic, but i smoke ALOT of weed and keep my close friends supplied too for free, so It isnt feasible in my 4x4x7 tent. Id run out of smoke. I need to grow outside :-)
If i have a good outdoor harvest then i dont need to grow 8-9 weeks strains only. I could do some long flowering sativa landraces in my tent.
I am planting 15 autoflowers, and 15-20 regular and feminized plants. For the autos I will just add a bit of organic compost, BUT for my Photo plants I will need fertilizer.
My questions is ; What is a good Shake n Feed type of fertilizer to use? Like the pellet kind that i can mix in with the soil and it will time release with heat and rain. there are so many different ones to pick from. I use Advanced Nutrients PHP Connoisseur with a few of the extras indoors.
Ill be growing mostly indica strains and some hybrids outside. Autos im just going to grow anything i havent tried yet lol.
Thanx for any help
:peace::mrgreen::joint:
As an extra - has anyone grown out any hollands hope OR any of that Alaskan strain or a hybrid of the alaskan strains.

I have used many ...but my favorite has to be dried blood and bone, but is very strong, apply after a heavy rainstorm, and a very good weed killer used in volume, second to that has got to be animal shit

1: Chicken shit
2: Pig shit
3: Horse shit
4: Goat/Sheep shit( last years successful experiment)

And the 'candy' I feed all my babes is foilar feeding with kelp, 1 teaspoon to a pint spritz bottle, 2x times per day

note: to make you fet time delay ..just add a hanful to a platic bag, and bury deep

ps, rather than let your buddies leech of you, just give them some seeds, see what happens ....?

You will get as many suggestions as there are members. For the budget Osmocote for synthetic or Empsoma for organic. Are my two for ya.

OK, if I am going to get a million different answers, maybe I can just ask this instead;
What ratio should i go with for a synthetic fertilizer. ie. 4-5-5, 15-15-15, 20-20-20, theres a bunch, 8-6-8 was one i remember.
OR, theres Flowering Plant fertilizer, Tomato, Orchid, African Violet, etc etc etc.
thanx

Sounds like you're doing a good small size guerrilla grow.
I'll chime in here on this.
I don't know about you but my local Walmart has gigantic containers of Osmocote. (made by MG) I actually found some after digging though them that's on a 10-10-10 ratio and "Feeds up to 3 months" It's the "All Purpose Formula"
So I ended up picking up 3 of the 4.5lb jugs of that (looks like a liquid laundry detergent bottle) for later use.
Then I also picked up a 4.5 gallon jug of the Rose and Bloom Formula. 9-18-9. Also feeds for 3 months.
I did some experimenting last season with it and it worked out nicely. That was just with the Tomato Shake and Feed. Which is damn close to the All Purpose.I picked up the all purpose this round because of the even NPK rating.
Plants were 3-4 weeks old when I plopped em in the ground. They were vegged out and then Uncle Ben topped before sticking em in the ground.
What I had done around the base of each one was topdressed them with a full feeding. Or 2 Tbs per plant. I dug a little circular trench about 4 inches around each trunk. Sprinkled it as evenly around it as I could and covered it up.
Then I'd come back once a month and top dress them with another half dose. To keep up a good nute supply while the prills were degrading (and weakening) Now it says they feed for 3 months but imo that's on a maximum basis. I felt safe doing a half topdress every month. I had no issues or burning. Nothing died. They were also in ground and not in containers. So you have nutes leeching away and whatnot.
The gameplan his year is to do the same thing. Except at the end of July start topdressing with the flowering formula because outdoors they start flowering in mid August.
So in August, September and October they'll be getting 9-18-9. Or building up to it anyways.
But I didn't carry a single drop of water to them. I just let rain do the work for me. I didn't even water them when I transplanted em because I kept an eye on the weather and it rained maybe 5 hours after I was done.
It was a set it and forget it kind of thing. No visits except to come back. Smile REEEEAAAAALLLLLLYYYYYY big when I arrived. Inspect them. Top dress them. Then trek on out of there.
During late flowering my visits were picked up to once a week in order to inspect for mold etc.
So take from my experience what you can. Just be sure to check and see what the "Feeds for X months" rate is. Then do the math for however you want to handle topdressing.

I just bought some oscomote myself , it comes in many different NPK ratings and some works alot longer than others

http://www.osmocote.co.za/product.htm

You should be able to find a 14-14-14 and a 19-6-12 in a 4 month formulation at any wallmart / lowes / HD , either product should work fine from start to finish , but some will say it will have to much N for flower, in that case just time your fert. application so it's gone by flowering , Just be aware 4 months is a estimate only

Awsome, thanx for the advice. Ya i am doing a guerilla grow for sure. Its about 60 miles to my camp site, and another 8 or 10 to get to my (hopefully) planting spot.
Doing groups of 3-4 plants per 'area'.
Its a pine/spruce/birch forest, LOTS of raspberry bushed around, ground is pretty decent soil, probably too acidic so i will use lime. TONS of peat moss in the ground and fine, fast draining dirt, plus I will have the ProMix HP in the holes too.

^^^ yes, this. And despite what people say, I find miracle grow to be a pretty good time release fert, u just cant over do it, Id advise half the recommended amount every 7-10 days. probably closer to 10 days would be best. The amount they advise certainly isn't necessary(as is with lots of nutrients), because they're trying to sell more product faster. And liming wont be necessary as promix is already ph adjusted with lime

Spruce trees are a decent indicator of nice fluffy and airy soil. Good call on that one. One of my favorite out of the way camping spots is right smack in the middle of a lot of them. I've had a hammock strung between 2 of them for about 6 years now :blsmoke:

I have been camping the area im going to use for years now. I think its going to be a good spot. Im going to spread out the plants in small groups, just in case. Mostly im worries about rabbits and squirrels. Not people. There are no people around at all lol. There are alot of deer in the general area i suppose, but not in the area im planting in, at least ive never seen one or any signs of one. There are also alot of racoons...are they a problem?
