Yes, i hear that quite a lot. But the correct word is colonizers not convict's (we don't have a huge convict population like America) and First Nations people not native.
Perhaps America can do the same?

But on topic, sorta, I wouldn't mind seeing my state leave the federation.

yeah they also sell alot of weapons. which they develop and hitherto test in real combat. their successful war enterprizes boost the confidence in their war technology which increases sales.
 
The question of secession can be analagous to kidnapping.

If a person isn't free to leave a human association, we know there's a possibility they're kidnapped. Most of us think that's a bad thing.

If a couple million people aren't free to leave, they are literally political prisoners, but many people don't think holding millions of people as captives is a bad thing.

That's odd.

Buddy, here in Canukistan eh, those of us who wouldn't take an experimental injection couldn't travel by plane or train in our own country even though our constitution says we have 'freedom of movement'.

Weird eh.

It's happening in a subtle economic way. Large companies and swaths of citizens are voting with their feet. I think we often forget that the US is a Union of 50 different countries. Many of these countries have rebelled against union tyranny already, such as the nation states that have legalized cannabis.

More reservoirs would certainly help. Between Shasta, whiskeytown and Oroville I bet they could fit at least 4 more if the environmental regs would get out of the way.

Still, those realities haven’t stopped some people from picturing their state seceding. In these states, there’s been some serious talk of breaking away from the union. Could any of them survive as their own country? Did your state make the list?

If States are prevented from seceding, that is the evidence they are captive.

Similar to a person being locked in your basement and being prevented from leaving, it's just a matter of scale.

To say, "the civil war decided the secession thing" is akin to Jeffrey Dahmer saying, "that last guy tasted good, so I'm gonna keep doing it".

Horselover fat replied: "Ideally the people, but what I mean is the president shouldn't have much authority. Parliaments should run countries."


I'm sure that the vast majority of people would agree that parliaments elected by majority are much better systems of Government
There's no hope of America changing its experiment in political leadership and government i wouldn't think but IF some States left then they could certainly bring about a much better system
