mylar hands down...tin foil is a shitty reflector, and it creates hot spots. mylar isnt too expensive...flat white paint works fine if $$ is an issue

..you can use tin foil but put it flat side out, not the shiny one.. But mylar is better anyway..

Well it is proven that tin foil does create hotspots (fried my friends seedling) but if you don't have the money and there isn't any other way for your setup go ahead :)

Tin foil doesn't even reflect the light well even if you'd think it does because it's shiny, it does like 55% (creased even lesser). Flat white paint reflects 75-85%. Mylar reflects over 90%.

mylar beats the shit out of tin foil. its like asking how a 27w cfl compares to a 1000w hps. mylar isnt too expensive, it was like 22 bux for the 1 mm and 26 bux for the 2 mm. the 2mm means its thicker than the 1mm so its a lot easier to put up and deal with. it comes on a huge roll that will last you a while if you use it wisely. as a second option, as was already said, flat white paint is in 2nd place, tin foil is pretty much dead last in my book

Ok, so I've seen some people use that sparkly reflective Christmas wrapping paper. Is that better than foil too? Has anyone ever used MirrorFlex from advtechnology.com? Looks like it might be a good option. I guess it's mylar foil on a PVC sheet so it's more rigid. No idea on cost though.

At the local dollar store, there is a thin very shinny wrapping paper in a roll. Its clear plastic type thing. Is that Mylar? or cheap brand of it?

I have no idea where to get it. local hydro shop has it but its farkin pricey. NOt a lot of comp so they charge god markups for them :) Don't blame them though.. I want it, they have it.

Just wondering if there was any other sources locally. Would you find this stuff at HomeDepot?

if you are close to a wal mart you can go to the camping section and get a reflective emergency blanket. its basically the same thing as my lar and will only runn you around 3.00$ tops. alot of people will tell you that also and im using it myself and its working great.
