Learn time management, trust me just do all your homework the day you get it or pretty soon. Instead of doing nothing in those hours between class just go do your work and study. Then when it hits night time you can drink, smoke and party all you want.

actually do work that isn't due. it helps out a lot and keeps you ahead of the curve a lot.
be nerdy and actually study a lot, you're going to be paying tons of cash for an education, if you don't make the best of it, that's like throwing away thousands of dollars.

get your education, get out, make money. then you can do whatever you want.

Actually enjoy what you learn... most important part of college, sucks trying to learn something you don't even like.

Don't fuck up!

Seriously though, just do what they suggest you do, and don't stress out. It always cracks me up when people stress so hard about exams, but if you have already done the work you don't need to stress. That doesn't mean you still won't have to work hard, but that doesn't mean stress.

Next always get your work done early. As soon as you leave class start your work, go to the library w/e just get it done. At night there are a million distractions and if you want to enjoy your time (which you will) do it by getting your work done first.

The other big thing, go to class!

-One more thing, get a degree that is worthwhile. Are you undecided now? If so take very heavy math classes it will pay off seriously in the future. Get a plan and follow through with it. It may seem like a lot of work but in reality it is not. A shitty job for the rest of your life is a lot harder life, than if you got a great education and having a good job the rest of your life.

I did my first degree at Uni in '94 and my 2nd and 3rd at home. My first year at Uni was one long party, its only the 2nd and 3rd years that count towards your final grade here. BA Hons History 1st, BSc Botany and horticulture 2:1 and BA Hons Politics 2:1...Thinking about classics next!

dont get too distracted by parties and girls. i mean college is the time to live it up, just make sure you have your studying and home work done before you go out. and if you have a test or even a class before 11am dont drink much the night before. theres nothing worse than a hung over test

don't blaze at school, save it for after. it's a lot easier to not wanna study or pay attention when you're baked.
also if you need help don't hesitate to ask most people are friendly and will help you, take advantage of any places around campus that will help you out like resource centers or t.a's they will help you so much and they want to!
enjoy that you're not in high school anymore, cause it's SO much better!

ill debate that

i study pretty well when im baked. i pay attention and contribute in class and i also smoke on my 10 min break between classes. it just mellows me out, lets me concentrate on what i really want too and not stress, and i enjoy learning when im baked, and dread class when im not

Take it from someone that has done it both ways.

I partied hard, skipped class, did the whole frat thing. Partying and fucking around was great - I am glad I did it. But after a year off of school I can tell you that college was more enjoyable when I actually got my shit done, aced tests and papers, and knew I was excelling at my classes. Partying is a lot more fun when you have nothing to worry about and is that much sweeter after putting in a HARD week of studying.

Work hard, play harder.

Get to know your professors / TA's. Stop by during office hours and ask them questions (even if you know the answers). Just get rapport with them. They taught me things about myself that are far greater than the classroom; and it is nice when they hand you the notes for Friday and tell you to take the day off.

Don't frown on hard graders, they know you can do better. Give it to them - That first A will mean something.
