Tired of Feminized Seeds

Is it me or has the herb growing world gone crazy with feminized seeds.

First of all, another thread info about fem. seeds having a higher likelihood to turn hermaphrodite if the plants are stressed rather than normal clones or regular seeded plants.

Its not cool when you want Chiesel for instance, and Big Buddah only sells Fem seeds. I would much rather take my chances with regular seeds. bongsmilie

I'd like at lease 1 male if I have to buy seeda. That way I could make pollen, then have a ton of my own seeds.

All you really need is to get a decent female with growth characteristics that are typical of that variety and then clone the shit out of it. I also think the prices are outrageous for these feminized seeds that I consider to have "mutant" genes. It seems its easy to turn a female male by stressing it if you really wanted to. The other way around is impossible.

i have used female seeds exclusively because i hate growing males - and i use a screen, so they are tough to remove if they are too big.

i dont think female seeds have "mutant" genes.. they just have the Y chromosome (that makes a male) isolated...

you can get pollen from any plant... even female. all you do is after harvest, leave a couple buds on the plant... and let it keep flowering... 12/12 - and after a certain time it will "go to seed" and produce bananas... bananas that are full of pollen, but none of that pollen can have the Y chromosome, because its from a XX plant...

there are lots of plants that do this... if you dont mow the lawn, the grass goes to seed, and has seed pods above the blades of the lawn... maybe you've seen that.

if i was gonna do a seed run, i would use pollen from the best female plant i had, and add it to the best female plant of the other strain i had... and get the best female only seeds... and you dont have to seed your whole crop either - that is a mess that produces annoyingly seedy bud... like 75% seeds 25% bud by weight of the nugs... maybe worse.

why wouldnt you want to make seeds that would produce the highest number of kick ass female plants possible?? if someone wants 1 plant, dont make them grow 4 for a month and a half to make sure they get a female...

it makes sense to me... female seeds have rocked my growing world... i just got a room for mothers, so now i dont have to use them exclusively, but they are the shit!

do you buy your own seeds or did you do a seed run?

i buy the beans, i'm just now able to keep the genetics and have a place for clones... but i'm still ordering some strains that are female only... it doesn't bother me at all, they still make huge kick ass buds ;-)

i had a friend accidentally do a seed run in his grow cabinet... it was so seedy it took 4x longer to sort out the seeds and roll a joint than it took to smoke the joint.

So no one has had any negative experiences with feminized seeds? Thats pretty cool if that's the case. I just wish more of the seed companies offered a regular version as well as a fem. version. I would much rather get 2 varieties of regular beans vs. 5 or 10 fem. seeds for the same price.
