To defoliate or not? Autoflower

Hi guys, absolute newbie to this so was just wondering if I should remove some fan leaves..all 6 of my girls are at around 40 days old, tallest one being just over 1 meter. All of them about 2 weeks into pre flowers, should I open them up to get light penetration to lower bud sites as its abit of jungle. My light is a 2000w led.

I don't agree with the notion that autos don't take well to defoliation. If you feel that you must defoliate, focus on removing only inward-facing secondary fan leaves that cover prospective bud sites. It's a good idea to have your defoliation done before preflowers begin showing up. Good luck!

I don't know much about autos as ive never done them but from what i hear, any high stress can have negative effects as they don't have enough time to recover due to short life span

Maybe so, haven't grown autos in a couple years. Selective defol sure, but all out stripping I don't think will do autos any favors. I do selective defoliation for air flow and keeping pm at bay but I don't strip my plants.

Autos are on the clock so to speak. If you stress them you can't let them veg longer to let them come out of it, they keep trucking on their own time line.

I agree that they're on the clock but the only real thing that gets delayed is harvest time which might get set back by a week or two or three but they'll always finish. Yields can be greatly be effected but they will always finish no matter what.

@Cannabliss92 , this guy's a test grower for Fast Buds (and a few other breeders, I think).

I would leave those alone. They are not overly dense by any means. If you have leaves on top of leaves on top of leaves.... that would be one thing but your structure is relatively stretched

That's interesting, I guess it makes sense that people are figuring autos out as time goes on. I was successful in the past toping autos, but not everytime. Sometimes it would stunt them and they wouldn't get much size.

From what I've learned after going through this thread is that any auto can be topped and fully recover as long as it's done before (or close to) day 21. Maybe your stunted autos were topped much later than day 21 or maybe it was before the genetics of autos came to be as 'predictable' as they are today. Either way, hopefully your plants that stunted weren't enough to put you off of topping autos forever.

I couldn't tell you the timing on it, it's been a few years. I topped a white widow xl back then that turned into a nice bush, pulled 7 zips off of it in my greenhouse. It was from female seeds, I sent them a pic and they used it for a while. That was my claim to fame lol

Thank you guys for all advice and guidance, prehaps what I'll do is I'll defoliate 1 out of the 6 and see what happens, I have 3x cbd lemon potions so I'll do one of them and compare at the end, I know the technique is controversial as such although with some leaves covering some smaller lower bud sites I see why pruning could be beneficial. Thanks for the video too ill give that a watch.
Cheers again guys
