To dome, or not to dome? That is my question . . .

i know with clones that domes are beneficial for a bit so i went ahead and used one for my seeds. My question is now that they are all about an inch to two above ground, should I go ahead and lose the dome? I'm using a 5u 125watt fluorescent with hood and would like to get it as close to the seedlings as possible but just don't know if it's time to pop the hood yet. Opinions?

Does it have vents? Open them and then wean them off the dome. If you just take it off sometimes they can't handle the shock.

maybe use a smaller dome like half a soda bottle so you can still bring the light right on it while still green housin it

I don't use a dome for seedlings. I use a zip lock baggie to germinate until I see a sprout then put in a rock wool cube.

Clones dome..seeds no need. But if you started seeds in a dome they have to be weaned

I do not dome.. and all is well.. I did dome for a few.. but see no reaon too.. where is the dome in Nature? I try to cut our as much BS as I can.. I take my seeds right from germ to soil ( i dont like the jeffy cubes or rock wool). I use a 2 in cup, then a 4 in cup .. NO SOLO CUP CRAP.. once the plant has good roots.. its net pot ot soil.. Yes you can go from soil to hydro or hydor to soil.. its fine. Your miles my very

I just popped and planted some seeds. I used a dome, with the vents opened, until the seeds popped (12-36 hours). Then, I put them directly into their 5 gallon pot. That way, the tap root is allowed to shoot down to the bottom of the pot. The whole pot will become filled with roots. It's different with clones, you're supposed to gradually increase its pot size... because it has no tap root.

in using the dome for 12-36 hours... make sure everything inside is moist, not wet. the dome will keep it moist and warm. If things are too wet for too long, you can get in trouble.
