to everyone growing with cfl's

so i have a insulated box outside on my balcony and it rained today. little did i know i missed a spot with the foam insulator (on the celing of course) and rain water poured in all over my cfl grow lights but none of them failed in any way!!! so just for all of thoes growing with cfl, rain will not blow them or really hurt the ballest. my lights were saturated... but maybe i got lucky who knows?

im a general contractor through spring and summer, and i get into alot of electrical work.

I want you to know, you ARE VERY lucky. Do not put your lights back out in the rain unless the fixtures themselves as well as plug receptacle are 100% dry. This is not safe and they are NOT waterproof. You will start a fire, or get zapped, you could die and possibly kill others.

be safe, and be smart...

does anyone no if I can put some cfl lights for more whatts with my metal hilade High sodium bulb. Is this good for veg and flower

I have cfl's in my backyard that go through tons of rain and dense fog and they last forever. I don't get up there and play with them though.

You can definitely use CFL's to supplement any lighting set up, awesome for side lighting and hitting those hard to reach areas beneath the canopy. CFL's properly used can be good for vegging as well as flowering, though a change up in the spectrum should be implemented.

Your right in what info your trying to pass on, which is really that you can get water on these bulbs and they won't explode, crack, shatter or otherwise turn into a exploding device at the slightest drop of moisture, which happens somewhat often when using "hot" bulbs. I don't know what kind of rig you have set up, but let me back you up on record. We, My s/o and I have an outside CFL, FL combined lighting unit. He was a sign man for years and knows all about hooking up lights and ballasts that have to withstand our Arizona monsoon's. I doubt your rig has all of the safety features he built into his, so do use caution when wet. I've got to tell you that the combo we have going is producing some very healthy plants.

cfl's could actually crack but still work im deffinatly a newb but i would suggest changing the lights or make sure they didnt crack

definetly use them they work really well im using all cfl and i have some on the sides for extra light penetration to inner and lower bud sites!! like uoxi said!!

haha i think its the bulbs in my opinion,my whole set up has fell down twice hahah i woke up one morning n it was all threw down n they didnt break :0
