To FIM or not to FIM, that is the question.

Hi, novice grower.
I fimmed my first grow at bout 2nd week of veg and flipped bout 5 days after that. plants were 22 to 24 inches tall. 4x8 tent with two 600 watt hids. I did this due to fear of overcrowding. They got to about 26 inches and yielded 1.5 to 2 ozs each.

I am at day 18 of VEG, and plants are all 22 to 24 inches tall. The short squatty quarazytrains were clones from a friend that were 'tops' he said, and have multiple branches at top. The Powerkush are taller and more similar to the christmas tree.

Im thinking I dont want to fim at this point and veg longer to see if i can get bigger yields. however, that could mean one very long cola at top and needless crap at bottom, as I am still trimming bottom third as I go (shoulda done from beginning).

Could I veg one more week and them FIM, then flip right to flower?

Have also heard you want to wait after fimming before switching?

How bout not Fim at all, will I get one long skinny cola of the undesiarable wispy type, rather then the nice dense fat nugs I got from fimming last time?

are any of these questions answerable?

IMO best to fim during veg, the plant will develop more branches and you can control the height and evenness of the canopy. I dont wanna mess with plants going into flowering, all the adjustments/pruning etc should be done before then

Ah, so FIM then perhaps give them another week of VEG to even things out. Got some short squatty's too, guess I'll put them in the middle in a stadium effect. thanks man!!

Also, is it too late almost 3 weeks into VEG to start pruning the bottom third of your plant? Want things focused up top. Have been trimming the little stuff, but have quite a few secondary bracnhes sprouting out from the base. If I can bend them out and get some light, would be worth it.

TRying to get a nice manageable 18 inches of top canopy, as I think thats about max light penetration depth. But dont want to prune bottom if that will hurt it this late in the game.

will pruning the bottom third of the plant 3 weeks into VEG hurt it, or should I wait until theyre flipped?

Sorry to bump this, will have pics tonight for better explanation, but really need advice here. Not getting much action here... Not saying FIM in flower, but right before is ok? Or give another wek of vedge.

Also, is it too late to start pruning bottom third of plant off? Not just small stems there but good size branches coming right out of the main stem at the base. Maybe when i post pics tonite more peopke can elaborate.

yea I just fimmed my plant about a week ago for the first time an my plant is about 3 weeks. I also pruned the big fan leaves yesterday. Look at my thread..SUBD

what i understand most people fim or top during the 3rd or 4th week of veg but make sure it has at least 3-4 nodes and it all depends on the strain......some strains will do great if you top or fim them but others are better to be left alone but idk what strains those are but i know super lemon haze is great to top

IMO, if you LST, fimming is not necessary. Ive expiermented on 3 strains, nebula, white domina and red diesel. My last harvest I fimmed and LST'd and the current ones I have only LST'd them. There is absoloutley no noticleable difference so far 6 weeks into flower. I will know for sure once its all dired and ready but in my opinion, a good LST is alls you need to make some high yielding plants.

Haze and kush are total opposites. Thats like saying "I just had some food, it was either cotton candy or steak."

That's some funny shit... but true it could be some reg swag did u get them from a bank or net

its a bagseed i got. i dont remember if it was from the haze or kush i had. i don't smoke swag even though the weed had 1 seed in it, it was still fire.

o ok I feel u and I have some purple kush that I got 1 day and it had 2 seeds in the oz and it was fire so I know that good weed still might put out a seed or couple....

yup and its turning out great so far!!!
