I'm in the process of selecting a mother out of 8 Dinafem Critical + 2.0
Wilma (larger), 400w mh / 600w ds / Hyrdoton / 11L / Canna Nutes / pH 5.7 - pH6.3 / 40% RH / 23C (72F) on and 17C (62.6F) off
It's my first grow and it's going seamlessly, I even got my cuttings to root first time. I wanted to leave these to grow out in a vanilla way so that I can incrementally adjust my growing technique and know what works best with the strain, but the growth rate of these have left me looking at having to prune them more than I already have.
You can see where I took the first three nodes of the plants off, this was mainly to see how they reacted to pruning (no point in a mother that takes a week to bounce back). They've been in flower for a week now so I really need to get any pruning done in the next day or so...
Ignore the runt in the middle. This gives you an idea of the light penetration, I know I left them in veg too long but wanted the different phenotypes to establish themselves (mixture of sativa dominant w/ loads of node sites and a few indica dominant with less sites but more bushy structure).
The lower middle plant is the runt from the previous picture. You can see that there's a range of heights in the canopy, but they would still benefit from some under pruning. There are some lower branches that have grown in a strong and stable (no, not a Tory) manner, making their way up to the top, would the way to approach pruning these be to leave the very tops that have access to light, whilst removing the lower flower sites on the same branch ?
This picture shows how close I am to the ceiling, I can raise the lights a good 5ft but have about 6" left, thankfully they're at about the end of their stretch. Ultimately the goal would be to take one of the sativa dominant strains and scrog them, then lollipop, top, or both depending on how they react.
