To soak or not to soak, that is the question

right so ive latley gotten into homebrewing, needless to say i wanted to get a grasp of it so i can eventually brew, yes u guessed right, cannabis beer (or ale in my case).

So now that i know how to brew highish alcohol percentage ales im thinking next time i get an above 8%abv ale dry hop with a couple of ounces of bud in 5 gal.

Thing is im very sure if you put str8 up ground buds in your fermentor all sorts of bad tastes will go into your beer.

I was thinking of perhaps putting whatever bud into destilled or 0.0 ec water for say 12 to 24 hours to absorb some of the crappy tasting elements in the bud?

Ye i know i d lose some terpenes and etcs... but i rather lose some of them than have an ale taste awful, maybe my thinking process is wrong...

So yes, would you soak or not soak buds before adding them to your fermentor?

Help and trolling both equally appreciated btw...

It must be convenient to get into home brewing when you also grow. So many places are combining the two, like the Brew & Grow near me. You can sneak grow supplies in your haul of brewing supplies, so you don't really have to make a stealthy trip. Adding some bud to your brew sounds interesting, let us know how it goes. Also, Free Pinworm...

Bro my mother rooms ar aaalways between 19 and 20C, needless to say ales i brew live next to mothers (away from light tho).
Home brew and commercial beer to me compare very well like shaven vs unshaven pussy. One of them looks better but when its time to eat out you always chose one over thge other......................

Be interesting to see how it turns out. I'd soak the bud first is ice cold water to minimize the sol. of THC complex. That way you'll get a lot of the polar compounds to leach out(salts, aminos, etc) but you'll still retain the chorophyll which will color the beer. It's an experiment, see what happens

I've heard if you try to dry hop with buds or hop it in the boil you will get a grassy taste. What I did was made bubble hash and used the left over water for my boil. It turned outOK but it was also my third brew. The effect was like a weak edible but it hit you way quicker, before the first beer was gone, I could feel the bud.

Some people were saying to make a tincture and just mix it in is the easiest way.

Soaking them in water like you said or doing a water cure would probably help limit the grass taste.

@Singlemalt that was bang on what i was thinking of doing. How long would you soak them in cold water? Im planning to put it in the fridge at around 7 to 10 C for a min of 12 hours and a maximum of 24?
I also thought about putting like an ounce when cooling wort down and said wort reaches a temp of around 40 c until it reaches pitching temp, so not many terpenes fly off and still capturing some of that intrinsic strain flavour. The dry hop say for 3 days before cold crashing with a few ounces of nuggery and maybe an ounce of a smooth hop like saaz to balance it out.
Laos planning to spray plants with a light peroxide solution a week before harvest to kill any possible mould spores or whatever, to lessen possibtf 5rility of posterior contamination... I dunnop shudnt be a big problem since not gonna dry hop anything that less than 9% abv with cannabis.
I really like the buzz a bottle of hoppy as fuck homebrew gives you, that and two dabs and youre in another world. I think if everyone had access to good home made beer thered be no alcoholics, i cant really hack more than a 2 or 3 bottles before im buzzed out of my tits (and im big boned), well different effect from commercial beer.... I wonder if dif yeast strains produce different chains in the alcohol molecules...

Anyhow thanks for inputs everyone

Your method sounds fine, just don't agitate and knock off the trichs. I'm quite interested in how it turns out. Good thinking on the peroxide spray.
edit: are you going to decarboxylate the weed first?

@Singlemalt

So how long a soak? 12 hours outta do it?
I dont think i will decarb, i mean theres only 9 to 10% alcohol in that ale its not like increasing the amount of available thc by 1/3 is gonna be able to extract that much more thc in such a low alcoholic percentage, imo... It would however kill most terpenes... I suppose those are the ones that provide taste and aroma to the beer.
Planning on doing 2 or 3 ounceish of fine nugs to 20 liters next time i make an ale and gravity readings indicate its gonna be a bomb with the aforementioned method, i really do hope most of the soluble shitty tasting stuff does soak in a short period of time... and no terpenes get dissolved in its interity in that same period of time...

Did you evercome across any threads of people who wet dry their bud? Like soaking it distilled water for a week changing water everyday in order to make a bud you can smoke outside since it wont stink and apparently maybe a slightly higher thc percentage if i remember correct... Water cure was it called?!

12 hrs should be good. I forgot about the terpenes, so yeah, no decarbox. I've heard/read of water curing; I've never done it nor experienced any that has been cured by that method.
