To what extent do you 'get what you pay for' with seeds?

To me a large part of the marketing = reliability...And that's a value as a consumer of this product I appreciate..I'm not saying a nobody isn't legit...but if its hard to find reviews of the seller it becomes a crapshoot for the buyer...g/l

there is obviously a wide range of prices. how much of it is marketing?
All of it, and lies, The finish times are never right and a lot of em are just F1 pollen chucks with popular names. It's not so much what ya pay for, it's more do your research, Find growers that have grown em, or find positive reviews. There are good breeders like Classic or Bodhi Do your homework and you'll get good beans, it's that simple

well eskobars seeds are pretty cheap, but he uses some of the best genetics in the world to create his strains, chocolate rain, chuckys bride, holy princess are very dank strains.all phenos are dank and as described for alot less money than inferior strains sold by well known so called breeders.

Researching strains you are interested in always helps, but a lot of times it is trial and error. The price of a seed often has little to do with the quality.

this is almost always the case. since they've been working with the strain for probably years, they know what conditions it does it's best in. so the perfect environment, with the experience with that strain, is why they do better. unless of course they just are flat out lying, lol...

Here is my recommendation. Buy a bunch of single seeds, of different strains from different breeders. Get 3 each of your top 2-3 choices. Grow 2-3 strains at a given time, each will have a mom + you have a space for 1 new mom. At the end of your grow, 1 mom of the exiting moms gets chucked and the new plant from seed takes it's place. Continue until you need to order more seeds, repeat.

This way you are always getting to see new competition for your moms, but keeping only the best of the best.

When selecting your seeds consider all the stats to be bullshit. Look at grow/smoke reports from that strain and breeder. Or just take a shot in the dark, if it's a loser you only grow it once and only in part of your grow anyway, the bad ones will be worth it when you find the good ones.

I tend to believe that you get what you pay for.

I've never seen seeds as aggressive and downright hearty growers as the Dr. Greenthumb strains I've tried. But they cost $40 per feminized seed.

But once you get a strain you like, you can clone and save $$$.

Well $40 per seed is the case with a couiple of Greenthumb strains like Bubba Kush and G13 but IMHO they are worth it. Where else can you get real Bubba Kush and G13? Most Greenthumb offerings are less than that to be fair and I have never had a poor result or a hermie plant with any greenthumb strain so for me they are good value. I bought HSO OG aginst my better judgement and it was ditchweed compared to Greenthumbs OG, so 4 months of my time is worth more to me than the price of buying a bogus seeds line. I will NEVER buy a seed from HSO again. I got Girl Scout Cookies from Greenthumb for for $125 so thats 11.35 per. All 11 sprouted and all 11 turned out really nice with a good yield and like you said I could have sprouted 1 or 2 and cloned the shite out of it. I just sent an order in for Blue Dream which is the same price until June I think it is

Just factor in pre flower time. Usually 14-21 days. Then the breeders flower time will be closer.

Also. Hit and miss with seeds. I buy 3. Take nicest pheno for mother. Flower others while younger. If I like the smoke then keep it! If not no room for subpar genetics

I like herbies. The stock almost every breeder and always have freebies.
Happy growing!
