tom hill mix

going to be using this mix for this season but i have some questions for anybody that might be familiar with this recipe or some of the ingredients. think there are some members here who contributed to the "large outdoor plant" thread at icmag. the recipe calls for a 40 lb bag of gypsum at one point and i have never used gypsum as part of a blend. is there a certain brand or consistency gypsum that is superior in this case?

please only make one thread about the same topic, if you want your thread topic moved you can hit report and ask a mod to move it for you to a different location

I don't remember exactly, but I think Tom Hill used the powdered gypsum. It starts breaking down pretty quick compared to other choices and shold still last awhile. Otherwise, I'd go with granulated which should last longer but won't break down quite as fast. That's what I use anyway, but I could be wrong. It's too bad they deleted all of Tom's posts on there. That's basically a legendary thread and somebody deleted a wealth of information from it. I check in at icmag almost everyday, but the mods are weird sometimes and the site isn't anywhere as up to date as sites like RIU. There is some threads that keep me coming back though.

Gypsum is so needed around my area. Our natural soil is high in salts, gypsum one of the best ways to leach out the high salts. And good for high ph soils and water sources.

I don't think you'd want to use that gypsum in your soil mix. If it really is soluble gypsum, it'll start leaching out of your soil immediately and cause a huge dump of calcium and sulfur if I'm thinking of what it is correctly. That stuff would be for watering in when you want/need to. It's cool though, I didn't even know water soluble gypsum existed. That stuff with some Epsom salts would be really useful sometimes.

The powerder/granulated/pelletized stuff should be cheaper too. I think powdered gypsum is about $16 for a 40lb bag at my local gardent store and I'm in Maui and everything is more expensive here than the mainland. Anyway, just guess on that stuff. At least research about it some more before you buy it.

That's weird a bunch of Tom Hill's stuff got deleted off of that site too. That doesn't make much sense.

ya its prob smarter to scope local sources for bulk items.. sometimes too easy just ordering. thanks for the heads up; was wondering it it was TOO soluble. nice growing in maui; last time i went my fam has a friend that lives in Lahaina area and was nice to try some real island smoke :)

* i went to little beach too ; and everyone was blazing pretty hard there lol. guess i tried more than remembered! . must go back..

You could do half pelletized or granulated for the long haul and half powdered or something like that. That may or may not be good advise, ha ha. Somebody here should know I'd guess. Or go ahead and post up your question on the icmag thread. There's not a lot going on on there anyway.

And yeah, there's plenty of good local grown weed here. Pretty much anything that makes it to harvest and is dried decently is going to be good. A lot of Maui's/Hawaii's climate is great for cannabis growing year-round. It's hard to beat the tropical sun and environment for growing most things. And Little Beach, you're pretty much guaranteed to find somebody toking especially if you go on Sunday night, then the whole beach will be blazing.

Also, Chimera just posted on the "Growing Large Plants...." thread that Tom actually requested to have his membership and posts deleted so it wasn't just some dumb mod or anything. Just some FYI there.

That info is probably somewhere on the net, maybe you could ask the NSA, I'm sure they have it all stored in their database, ha ha.
