Soo im a new grower and ive heard these terms and i understand that it makes the plant basically grow bushery... i got 3 plants right now that are about a foot - 2ft and wonderin how i do this?? someone please help me thx.

i have done lst you take string or they sell rubber coated wire that is made for training plants. You pick a spot a few nodes up on your plant and then you wrap the string or wire around the plant and tie it to something either a stake or a whole in your pot or whatever. and you bend the plant that way. you wait and let the plant grow for a bit and then you can go a few nodes higher and tie it off and then bend the other way never taking out the first tie off you made. it makes your plant kinda like a z instead of staright up and down. remember to leave a bit of room in your knots or your loops you make around the plant, the place that you tied it off will get bigger so you dont wanna strangle your baby lol

You can do both.
If you top your plant, you will lose your main cola, but the rest of the plant will have energy diverted to it, top it when it reaches the desired height for your grow space.
I LST every time I grow, bending the branches to create an even canopy across the top. The idea is to allow the buds to have equal ammount of light so that they can grow evenly.
Normally your plant will grow tall so the top has most of the light whilst the bottom branches receive less.
Here is my LST'd & topped northern lights to give you an idea -
and a more recent pic -
I put a rubber band around the base of my pot, tie some string around the branch and hook the string through the rubber band and pull it down a little at a time, this means I can make my plant fill my grow space to maximise yield
