alright so i have one plant. i started it in early February in florida. it gets direct sunlight pretty much all day long. also i have very heavy air traffic here.

basically, i dont want a 15 foot tall marijuana tree.

what should i do to keep it short? topping, lst or what? this is my first grow btw

ohh and if anyone wants to mentor me on my grow that would be cool to basically tell me what to do.

is it in a pot or in the ground? if its in a pot just keep the pot size to about two gallons and it shouldnt get that big, topping doesnt really make your plant shorter per say, it does generally give you two colas instead of one which is by no means a bad thing, but wouldnt solve the problem of the plant getting too big, you could make a really short monster if you wanted to stick it in a really really wide pot and then lst the hell out of it

it is in the ground i dug about a 3ft x 3ft x3ft hole and filled it with 80 pounds of potting soil and mixed in a little of the existing soil. and then i put all existing soil as a top layer to make it look natural.

also right now i think it is on the 4th or 5th set of leaves. i should probably start doing whatever i am going to do tomorrow.

Ive heard that some strains dont deal as well with topping, and if so is that based on the makeup as far as sativa or indica or is it much more complicated than that?

lst makes sense to me. you keep your plant short, easier for stealth indoor and outdoor i guess. the top of the plant will stop growing tall and bending it over also exposes the lower branches of the plant so they get more light and end up growing to be as tall or taller than the main stem (depending on how you train them). i don't know if topping your plant is going to keep it very short. it will just grow 2 branches as tall as it can from the point where you cut it. i've heard people choose LST over topping as LST produces the same results without damaging the plant where as with topping you can lose grow time whilst the plant heals itself. it's minor if anything. quite natural and i don't think this is much of a problem as the plants usually get minor damage and need more trimming when you LST. the trimming doesn't seem to slow things down much at all. it bushes them out. it's awesome.
