It depends on what your doing. If your FIMing all your trying to do is stunt the growth on it so that more shoots pop out(you still want the part your FIMing to grow). If your topping it then your not planning on that shoot to continue growing so you cut the new node all the way off instead of 25% off.

ok that makes sense now are the 2 shoots on the sides tops now or does that depend on how much i cut, as mine i didnt cut the whole thing 80-90%

Its sounds like you FIMed it two new shoots came out then the middle one grew out, then you topped the middle again. Do you have any pics?

FIM 01.jpg Each blue line represents a shoot. The red line represents where it would be if I topped it instead of FIMed(The middle shoot wouldn't be there if I only topped it).

Lol, sorry for the coco on it. Makes it look really bad.

What I did is FIMing.
If you want less tops just do a regular top. FIMing is a more advanced technique to get multiple tops. Fuck I missed means they diddn't succeed at FIMing. If you do in fact miss you will just be doing the regular topping method also similar to just cutting the stalk anywhere below the new growth.
What I ment by stunting is that you will just be stunting the new growth until two more tops come out(FIMing will usually cause less stress and recover faster then normal topping).

Damn man, I might not even post the video. You can barely even see what I did, pretty much me just smoking a cig, leaning over the plant, then saying "there you have it."

Also i wrote down this teqnique to get 4 main colas, when its 5-6 nodes tall cut the stem just above the second true node
