Totally new grower, have a few questions

hey guys,
I am new to growing, and I actually havn't really started yet. I am doing a total stealth grow in the crawlspace inside my closet, and I have been making sure I have everything ready to go before I start. I need to ask a few basic questions that probably only come from experience..but...

First: My crawlspace is like 15-17 ft long, 5ft tall and maybe 3-4ft wide. I am prolly gunna section off part of it so it will be only like 9ft long, but I dont have any real way for fresh air flow, so would an air purifier work? a good one? I will also have a fan or two going to circulate.

Second: I will be using a few CFLs for lighting, not sure what the watt will be, but can I use that bulb for veg and flowering? or will I need to get a different bulb for each? Infact, what kind of transition should I do with that light setup? from 18/6 to 12/12? or what? I have no idea what I am doing for that transition lol....

anyway thanks for the help guys, I will prolly start a grow journal or something, once I get started.:peace:

A fan will work just fine..
CFLs are ideal for close quarter gardens..
They dont generate much heat at all...
Keeping a temp guage right near and above the lights will let you know if its getting too hot..
Aslong as you not going above 85 degrees F or 30 C, you will be fine..

Im also using CFLs, and you will want to get 2 different bulbs..
For veg you want 5500K-6500k..
They are called cool white..
They give off a bit of a blueish color

For flowering you will want a 2800K or lower spectrum.. It will be a yellowish light..
Going to a hardware store, and look at all the bulbs that are lit up..

Notice the ones that are a bit more blue, and how others are more yellowish in light..

I hear using a mix can benefit plants.. Using more blue in veg(2-3 blue spectrums and 1 red) and vise versa in flowering..
I cant confirm this, but it sure dont hurt to try, aslong as you got more of one spectrum then the other..
And having PLENTY of watts for whatever growth stage you are in..

I hear you want atleast 100 CFLs watts per plant..
My bulbs are about 3 times the size or normal CFL house hold bulbs.. ALot of time they have a big # like 100w on them, but are the size of a normal bulb..
If you look abit closer you will see they are infact only about 30 or so CFL watts..
You will know when you have the proper bulb and wattage, because like I said one of my bulbs if about 3 times bigger then normal bulbs...
About 10-12 inches long, and very fat around

I was lucky to find some 75W CFLs.. I got 3 of each spectrum.

Using a fan, and having it blowing up on the bulbs, will allow you to keep your plant directly under the lights.. You can get upto a 1/4 of an inch if you want..
That about how close I keep mine..

The more light the more, and faster the growth.. The closer your plant is to the light the "bushier" it will become, and will prevent it from stretching (which is how far the nodes grow apart from eachother)...

Good luck

Sick thanks dude! I just wasn't sure if the switch from veg to flower was only light ratio or was it a whole different bulb. thanks a bunch. As for airflow, as long as a have a fan going, I shoud be fine? it doesnt mater if it is the same air that circulates? just making sure, because it would involve major construction to put an air duct in.
thanks a ton though!

well yes if you can find a way to get some fresh air in the room it will be good for the plants..
BUT I dont think you HAVE to..
There are ways of manually mixing various "cocktails" to get Co2 into you grow room..
I am looking to this myself, so if I were you I would search around if this is something you think you would want to do..

Right now IDK exactly how its done, or which method works best.

And the photoperiod (light cycle) does call for a 18-24 hours in veg, and 12 on and 12 off in flowering..
I have heard people using only a 2800K spectrum for veg, and flowering..
I wouldnt do this if you dont HAVE to..
Get proper bulbs for the right growth stage, or use a combo
