Totally silent setup

Hi Every1, I am just about to start prepping for a loft grow in a 1.2 x 1.2 x 1.8 tent. I need it to be very quiet, so no big noisy fans for me. I saw some vids of fans with a muffler either side. Anyone tried this b4 or any other recommendations for silent setups ?? Have seen a couple of diff fans (S and P or box fans) that I thought might be good but was hoping someone on here with some real experience might be able to point me in the right direction? I have a decent amount of space around the tent.

I am planning on going organic, QBs and some autos. Will keep a heater in with them on a timer to try and keep the heat at a decent level.

I use a maxfan for my exhaust and it’s fairly quiet compared to most inline fans. I also use insulated ducting. The insulated ducting acts as a muffler and makes a huge difference for quieting down any inline fan. I don’t use a tent. I framed my room in my basement, walls and ceiling are insulated with roxal fire and sound insulation. My room is extremely stealthy but not 100% silent. If my house is dead quiet and I go in my basement and stick my ear near my intake I can hear a slight hum.

There is no such thing as entirely silent.
Mufflers and silencers are ok for getting rid of the whooshing air sound but no good for fan hum. Its a low frequency and is almost impossible to sound proof against.

Box fans are fairly quiet, or some are. The best thing to do would be to use a fan bigger than needed and use a good speed controller to lower the speed. Bigger filters and ducts, acoustic ducting and box the fan in.

When your looking for a quiet fan look at the decibel rating, if there isn't one contact the manufacturer and ask. If they don't know don't buy it.

Do lots of research!

TDSilent range of fans is really quiet.

That tent is tiny and wont need much airflow. TBH it should be pretty easy to find a quiet enough fan for that space.

Yeah when I said totally silent I meant as close to it as I will have guests coming into the house and don't want them asking what the noise is !! Thanks for the reply coreywebster and I am doing plenty of research but there's nothing like getting a recommendation from someone who's actually used something. Thanks all for taking the time to read and reply. Anyone with any experience of a silent setup for a small tent like this ??

Ps. Hey ANC the TD range are made by S and P (Soler and Palau)
. I mentioned them above in my first post. Have you used them yourself ? I wanted to muffle either side of it but this means keeping it outside of the tent.

I grew in tents for years always trying to make my setups more quiet and stealthy, building sound proof boxes for fans using mufflers baffling etc. I could hear a oscillating fan or pc fan when walking by my tents. I don’t think there is such thing as silent. Yes you can definitely be stealthy but I think location is important too. You can do things like put your setup near fish tank or something that makes some noise to help distract people from the sound of your tent a stuff like that.

So after reading this again, im pretty sure your measurements are in meters.
So you're using a 4'x4'x6' tent. Not nearly as small as I was thinking.
With this space youll want at least a 300cfm fan and filter to keep the smell down during flower. This will put you in the 6" fan/ducting/filter range for a lot of fans but u may be able to find a 4".
Fan placement, Insulated ducting, and sound deadening couplers go a long way in reducing noise. If you were to attach the filter to the intake side of your fan, hang it from the top of your tent, and run insulated ducting out your exhaust, you'd barely be able to hear the fan itself with most fans. but you will still hear the rushing air making it kinda difficult to hide somewhere where its always completely silent.
Are you growing in your bedroom closet type deal here? Anything thats under 40 dba shouldn't be noticable unless youre right by it but these fans are likely going to be in the $100-$150 range
Just gotta remember that smell will get you caught before sound will, and most fans arent THAT loud. Even my 1000cfm fans are drowned out but the noise of my furnace because of the insulated ducting.

No such thing as silent

the wet rafters drying out will warp and shudder even pinging sound once cold

then the roof cladding slips

thats always a give away

grow in the basement like all the boys at home do

Tent measurements are in metres. I am in the UK. Defo getting a Carbon filter but was trying to figure the fan out before I pick the filter. Anyone any good suggestions for fans or box fans suitable for my grow space .? Dying to get started in the next two weeks!!

Will there be a lot of moisture from only a small setup like mine Vostok? Also I'm in UK. We don't do basements mate. If the moistureis going to be too much I'll install a grill/vent on the underside of my roof cladding and run the ducting to that.

No matter what fan you go with, you can make it pretty quiet at the expense of cfm. My best method is to build a wooden box or use a plastic tote for a silencer. Put the fan inside, fill it with your preferred silencing material(I use ripped up pieces of memory foam) and run the duct in one end and out the other. Seal it up and keep it outside the tent. With 4-5 extraction fans running at once my building would sound like a prop plane without these.

Swisha85 any issues with heat build up in the tote ? I have seen people do that on the forums but was worried it would be (another!!) Fire risk. Ps. What fan are you hiding in there ?

Phresh silenced fans are pretty quiet and come with a speed dial. You will still get vortex noise from the outlet (that whoosh sound)

No problems here but all my fan motors are cooled by the passing air. Most fans are like that. I have a cheap duct booster fan thats been goin for years with this setup. Even the shot bearing is muffled lol.

Use rockwool. Dense stuff for insulation. Its not flammable.
Like Swisha said though, fans cool themselves. But still I wouldn't use a flammable material to insulate it.
Density is the key.
