coming soon in this theater...

"The Nanoco Deep-Red CFQD® Quantum Dot Film is the first quantum dot film released specifically for plant growth applications. The film, when combined with blue and/or near-UV LEDs, provides the optimal spectra to encourage maximum chlorophyll absorption and promote healthy growing, while minimizing energy consumption and casting less heat than HPS bulbs and traditional LED units making it easy to control growing environments. Quantum dots also allow for additional, precise spectral tuning of the film depending on the specific plant being grown and can be tailored based on customer and application requirements."

Seems like a really good product if they don't lie about its efficiency. I like it. The light will be nicely diffused which means great penetration and maximum usage. It's probably the best commercial light I'm aware of (assuming that their specs are legit...they certainly seem so). Still I don't believe that this could fully replace a 600W HPS.

Beside that a DIYer can build a 200W 2.7 µmol/J efficient lamp for about $600.

BTW efficiency should be either in (µmol/s)/W or µmol/J. µmol/W is quite a senseless unit.
