Transplant soon???

When the widest leaves reach the rim of the pot it is time to make a decision. The root system spreads out at about the same rate of growth as do the leaves. So, if the leaves are grown out the roots are too. That means the plant is ready to start vegging at an inch-a-day rate. Transplant now and the plants will go back to growing roots to fill the larger pot. Result is a taller plant that will finish later. Leave them in the smaller pots another week or 2 and you will end up with shorter, bushier plants. I prefer to top or FIM them at this point before transplanting. Good luck, BigSteve.

You want them to stress a bit before transplanting and the root system will be more dense and healthy for the long haul. Look how large some of mine get in small pots. Also when roots run out of room they tend to focus more energy up top so if you're trying to get large plants in a short veg time I highly recommend staying with the small pots and regular watering until about 3 weeks of veg then transplant them into 7 gallon pots.

The large one off to the side is a 10 gallon pot. I have two girl scout cookie mothers.

Here's a better idea of how small I keep my pots for the first 3 - 4 weeks.
