my plants are about 1 + 1/2 weeks old now and are still in small plastic cups (something you would get from a coffee machine)
i am going to buy some tomato compost and some 3 gallon buckets tonight, do you think it will be ok transplanting from the cups they are in now straight into the buckets or should i go for something inbetween the 2 first ??
ive read that 2 transplants is good but 1 transplant would be better
any help ?
thanks

You can go either way. There are advantages to both. I have found that multiple transplants allows for better root ball development. If it is done carefully, the transplants are no big deal and the plants will not stall along the way..

put them in the 3 gallon pots, I noticed a huge growth improvement just 2 days after I transplanted from small pots into big ones.
