right now i have my seedling in a plastic cup.. what would happen if i didnt transplant it and just kept it in there?

In order to make a productive healthy specimen your going to want to veg it out a little more, especially if you want more than one little tiny trichrome to clip.

and you will need to reveg the plant to create new budsites,
