Trichome explosion

im coming up an harvest time for my babies:blsmoke:. I remember hearing an old tip about leaving your plants in almost total darkness with a very, very, very tiny amount of light for 3-4 days before harvest. The plant strains itself to capture the light resulting in extreme trichome production:weed:. has anyone else heard of this trick:eyesmoke:

Am familiar w/48hr dark period prior to harvest allegedly increases resin production, but first I've heard of allowing a eensy, beansy bit of light in.
Personally, I think no-water/heat stress does more in this vein? I mean, if the plant really does increase resin as protection from this and/or that, I can't think of anything more seemingly threatening than allowing the planter to dry out in a hot environment.

It's sensory deprivation for the plant, but in this case, because it gets no light, it doesn't have to focus on photosynthesis or anything like that, so it can take the time to just gorge on nutes without doing anything with them...

...I think.

Wouldn't these gorged nutes be the same ones many would soon be trying to flush out in the next step of their harvest? Sound's like one or the other is unnecessary?

nut the trichomes is what contains most of the tetrahydrocannabinal LOL so the more thc the more potent juss at a lower dose of THC and i thought a plant produces those trichomes/resin to protect itself and during the night is when there something going on in the plant that makes them produce these like when a plant is on stree or it feels it is in danger it will produce more of the thrichomes/resins to protect its self or sumshit like that cant quit remember

^Very true about more trichomes = more THC, but keep in mind that it's not just the THC that gets you high. ;)

early german scientists that were the first ones to be responsible for providing canabis to the pharmacies there did a study over several years on this and found that up to 72 hours of darkness before harvest changed the chemical make up of thc and increased potency up to 30%.
i use this method and have found different results, depending on strains and lenght of dark, temps, humidity. try it for yourself, it increases the resing and other chemicals basicaly because the more dark time signals the end of the season and the plant hurries to try and finish it`s cycle of life.

would it be beneficial to do like 6/18 the last week before harvest?
or like 6/18 for a week then 48 hours darkness? that way it has longer to actually work with the dark time instead of just a last ditch effort

noob mj hey bud. anywere from 48 to 72, it depends on all those factors that i mentioned above on the lenght of time, play around and see the different results. i did 72 on my last harvest on half and the other i just chopped. the difference was not only in potency but flavour to me, you may not notice anything?

moonbeam, no light period, some light andf all you do is delay and may hermie if not done right.

you ever seen the big book of buds? If you have look at the white widow in the article about it says growers reduce light to 8 hours a day to increase the amount of resins

What do you guys think is better when it comes to the dark period before the 72-hour DARK period before harvest? What I mean is, would you suggest X hours of closet darkness, then Y hours of moonbeam? Or would you recommend X hours of pure sunlight (or artificial light), and Y hours of pure darkness?

How would YOU control your dark period?
