trichs Never turning amber

Growing WW from Nirvana, the trichs on the buds have been clear or cloudy some have a very minor amber color, but nothing like 50%. I've been waiting too long, it seems like a couple of months. Does this ever happen? Is it ok to harvest soon anyway? The buds look kinda old like the pics in the tutorials on this page suggest they should before harvest. Less green side leaves, looking amber as well.

I enjoy looking at the trichs through the RS loupe but it seems like a futile exercize, they never change.

I'm hoping someone has experience with this happening "a sativa that just stay's in flower".

Thnx

How long have you been flowering them for, I know you said month but can you narrow it down?
Also what kinda of light are you flowering with and are you flowering with a strict 12/12, not the ol' I'll get to it when I do.

Ok, It was for-sure beginning flowering Oct. 8th. (that is when I pollinated though I now see that it didn't take, pollen too old.)
Lights=HPS 1000 watts.
Temps now are days 78F, nights lower 68F 12on/12off (strict).
I haven't seen too many fresh buds but these look kinda loose, how do improve that?

extra question:
I have to harvest the plant in about 11 days (don't ask).
Not sure of what this early harvesting will do to the potency of the smoke but it is what it is.

Hey fellow grow enthusiasts (and Dear Ndugu),

Again I may have been too impatient, seems that there are some amber trichs and by the 23rd I should harvest some "ripe" buds.

This was a long process, it started as a seed that refused to germinate early summer, then a germinated seed that grew real slow.
Once outside its growth was slow till I had to take it in late September before the frost.
Inside it went to 12/12, and did pretty good.

doesn't sound all that unusual, i had a nl#5 that was very reluctant to amber, even at 12 weeks there wasn't much amber, < 10%
but every day you can hold on will help, so hang on till the last possible day

I think you should of been looking for multiple signs

-swollen calyxes
- receding hairs, turning orange or brown
- Trics turning amber, 5-50% ( depending on preferance)

MY advice, harvest at different intervals, see what You like

Alrighty, I will hold out till the 23rd then harvest, it looks like it should be perhaps around 5% amber now. I was considering letting the plant dry in the soil and using much less light to begin the cure/dry in situ, however this experiment is on the back burner for now. Since my one year old pollen didn't seem to produce seeds my next grow (who knows when) will be about seed production. The curing of the plant experiment is still something I'd like to try.

What are the mechanism that create the smoothest smoke and how is it attained?

your taste is going depend partly on the growing environment, soil, nutes, etc.
that you can't change, but the 2nd part is drying/curing
you don't want to dry too fast(this can be tricky), then curing in airtight glass jars for several months(with periodic jar openings) will produce the best tasting product
mold can happen if the curing is done with too high a humidity, best to read up in the harvesting threads for how to cure

Nirvana's knockoff White Widow is a 70 day strain. (not a precise number of days for every growing situation and condition/environment, just what Nirvana claims it will take.) That's of course 10 weeks of flowering (though they also say 9 to 11 weeks for flowering), so that's over two months of flowering. If you want more amber ... just be patient.

Nirvana Seeds - White Widow
Strain: White Widow
Breeder: Nirvana
Location: indoor
Type: indica/sativa
Flowering: ~70 days
Normal or female seeds.

In the mid-1990s, a legend was born. Almost overnight, White Widow appeared on the menu of just about every coffeeshop in the Netherlands. This masterpiece went on to become a yardstick against which all other “White” strains are held up. Our White Widow grows tall, with delicate arms. Her buds are moderately compact in order to contain the copious amounts of resin she produces. Tending toward the Sativa side, White Widow produces a buzz that is powerful yet energizing and very social.

Yield: 300 - 400 grams/m² (SoG)
Effect: High and Stoney
Grow height: Medium
Flowering Indoor: 9 / 11 weeks

OK, 70 days, now I am sorry I was casual about the note taking during the grow.
I did post the plant was in flower on the 8th of Oct. so based on that date we are just a few days shy of 70 days!!!
I know it varies but I'm gonna have to harvest by the 23rd, the can't grow no mo date :(. It is what it is.
Looks like a couple a Oh-Zee's, very nice. I do have a gram scale and will tally after the dry/cure.
Thanks all peas. ps "cmon amber trichs"

stick with it, it may not not look like it's changing much, but the cannabinoid ratios are 'maturing'
sounds like you be very close to the sweet spot

Update: the trichs are turning amber in greater ratio's, I always look at the one same bud, so as not to disturb too much of the rest of the plant, but this time I noticed quite a bit of amber, I am surprised I didn't expect that rate of change. I will have to check again but that was fast one day very few the next a whole bunch of amber didn't get a chance to move the loupe around perhaps it was just that one spot. In any case, life is good. : )

I appreciate the encouragement, thanks matey! I have gone to, no fan, turned off the 1000w hps, turned on a 65 w CFL @ 12/12, soil currently moist enough to perhaps need watering but will let it dry down. The Dry Cure begins!!!
