triming before buding

what type of triming should one do just before buding

Sometimes i'll cut a few spindly branches off from the bottom of the plant, that's about it.

don't trim any fan leaves from around the buds?

No way. Those leaves are what are producing those flowers to begin with. Leave them on there.

The only reason I even mess with those lower spindly branches is that they are a pain to trim and never produce much anyways.

Hello,

I would suggest you to only remove yellowish leaves. Fan leaves are good captor so you should not remove them. As the plant will spend energy to give a new growth.

Removing lower branch is good if you have problem with light reaching the canopy.
