trimming lower branches

hey guys, ive asked this a couple times before with no response:
if my plants are in their 5th week of flowering, would it still be ok to trim the lower branches (theyre gonna produce shit buds and arent getting light)?
also, a friend of mine said its ok to trim off some of the bigger fan leaves as the plant doesnt need them so much at this stage.
what do you guys think??

I cut some lower branches and stuff, and I had stretch problems to it looks like I have trees.

i was just wondering if cutting them this late into flowering would stunt their bud growth or anything.
same with the fan leaves, i heard they become unnecessary towards the later stages of flowering, its the smaller leaves that matter.

can anyone give me a go ahead or tell me im wrong? anything

kinda late. you could slow growth and/or cause shock. i try not to trim after 2 weeks in. i never trim fan leaves. you can tuck them out of the way but do not trim them.

Don't trim fan leaves PLEASE!! I hate to hear about people trimming fan leaves, it's just crazy practice. Plants use everyone of they're leaves for living a healthy life. This practice just doesn't make sense to me!!

Hey FAD..

I never remove fan leaves unless it is PARAMOUNT to getting good air flow in a dense Sea of Green.. with several hundred plants.. cutting fan leaves is in general a NO NO.. usually they will turn yellow and you can give them a gentle tug and they will come off...

as far as trimming the lower branches.. I can not tell you what to do this time.. BUt NOW you KNOW.. in the future you should turn all those useless lower branches into clones.. or get side lighting or flower when the plants are smaller..

thanks for all the feedback guys, i havent done any trimming.

i will NOT cut the fan leaves, but i will tuck.

i still want to cut the lower branches though, theyre not gonna produce anything worthwile and it's getting really hairy under there, im seeing alot of little gnats and i just want to clear alot of the area down there for air flow.

Im 26 days into flowering (nearing my 4th week) and I went ahead and trimmed the lower branches, and nasty looking fan leaves. Im seeing a lot of new growth and bushiness happen overnight! the canopy looked a lot happier too, it sorta looks like its dancing for joy lol, and the plant started reaching for light...hopefully the buds will start filling in and I'll see some nice crystals pretty soon :D

This stuff happened overnight:

as you can see I have a little bit more trimming to do here:

this is what happened to some of the branches I cut:

but Im not gonna tell U anything to ruin your grow.. I would reccommend U take the advice given into CONSIDERATION, and do as U feel right.

You won't hurt your plants by trimming lower branches, it can concentrate on the buds that you do want.

buds are still gettin fatter and the grow room is much cleaner. the plants still have at least half their foliage its just alot more clear on the bottom, better for air cirulation and pests. i saw alot of gnats before but since the cut ive been seeing less. great success.
