so i was told i need to cut the bottom nodes off of my plants. im a little scared to do this though. does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this? i was told a razor blade was best and to cut off everything below 6in.

thanks

Hey Gliwrx are you trying to top your plant? If so, just start at the bottom of your plant and go up to the second node. With a razor just cut it. Read upon cloning and take some clones from the topped plant.

I may be a noob, but that sounds rather rash and aggressive. Wouldn't where you top it depend on how many nodes are already there, and the maturity of the plant. If he hacked his plant off that close to the bottom and it was fairly developed, wouldn't that be a setback?

Please, correct me if my assumption is wrong.

yaaa your wrong. its all good though common misconseption.
you can grow it to 6 nodes cut it at the second node and use the upper part as a clone and not be much of a set back at all

Thanks for clearing that up. Maybe I'll top that way next time. The way I did it was removing the top node after it god about 4 nodes and started branching out.

That's exactly the way I do it as well. I don't let it grow 6 then cut back to 2. I usually top it at around the 4th or 5th node, wait about 5 days then top all the shoots again. Once they are growing I cut all the growing shoots off the bottom and from the "middle" or understory (leaving fan leaves). That last sequence is because I scrog though.

Just don't mutilate them and always always always clean our knife with rubbing alcohol between plants. Always :)

so ur taking the bottom branches off to focus on top correct,,, if i were u just take sharp razor / knife and cut one or two at a time so it doesnt stress the plant
ur trying to make the bottom look like this kinda bare on bottom

If your not trying to top then I would just leave the hell alone and let them die off as they become light deprived. Sounds like your cutting just for the sake of cutting. If your going to flip them soon and you don't want the bottom stems producing flowers (which you probably don't) then just hack them all and move on. Unless the plant is really small I don't really see a benefit to slowly taking them off over a matter of days. Just hack them.

you are correct sir. i just wanted to have the plants focus their energy on the tops. i also forgot to mention im 21 days into flower and the lower nodes already have bud sites

I dunno dude. Post a picture or give a rundown of your grow. I have absolutely no idea. If your plants are 4 feet tall..yes. If they are 2' under HPS then probably not.
