TRUMP CONVICTED

I’d like for the country to heal as well. I was born into the post-world war dividend era of optimism, prosperity and (excepting an imperial adventure in Indochina that left many dead or psychologically wounded) relative peace. Men on the moon! TV Dinners!!

However, under the booming surface, there was a lot of evil. Some residual; some emergent. Women were targets of universal bigotry. Brown people were imposter humans to a large section of the populace. Being gay could get you being dead. (When Aids came around, I heard more than one Good Christian say it was God’s punishment.) The ethnic joke was everywhere. We flared off natural gas because it was in the way of keeping the crude flowing into our sub-10-mpg chrome station wagons.

So nostalgia is often selective. Rose-colored glasses.

The only way is forward. Our current difficulties are a consequence of progress. (Imagine Nixon — or Huey Long — with a Twitter account!)
Think of the new things, clear down to a news network making money hand over fist selling fascist hate propaganda. And climate change happening fast and hard enough that its deniers are becoming recognized as collectively crazy. We cannot wish these things away.
Heck, we still cannot wish away Southern grievance rooted in being stripped of the God-hallowed right to own conveniently color-coded slaves.

So, as a nation and individually, we have a mountain of work to do.

The only way is forward.
Into the headwind.
Whatever it may blow our way.
Guess your a boomer,I'm a early Gen X'r 1965,remember church bells ringing when we got out of Nam,watched the mustacheod Oakland A's win WS,and saw a bunch of long haired people(my hair is long now) w/bell bottoms go to the park a 1/4 mile from the 3 decker I lived in to see Aerosmith play before they broke nationally, different times indeed.

I'm guessing that nobody you cared about died because of his insurrection.

I'm also guessing you forgot your lessons about how "appeasement" worked out in WW2.
Yeah good points, don't like contradicting, was a random `suggestion from someone sick and tired of being sick and tired and if you lost someone that day heartfelt condolences to you.

So much losing, big BIG losing, such perfect losing so much losing soon we're gonna be say "greezz maybe we need to let the guy have a W sometime"
Hope he keeps winning at losing, remember the quote like yesterday "we are going to win so much that you people will be tired of winning',what I as a US citizen have won is 8 yrs. of turmoil coupled w/words,deeds,and actions that were previously beyond my imagination of what was politically possible.

Yeah good points
I almost was unkind in that post. I'm glad I wasn't.

It's a good thing that you are basically kind, and are looking for a solution. You just have to remember that the fascists don't think like you. They see any form of reconciliation as weakness to be exploited, as a sign that you aren't committed to your cause.
They need to be stamped out, legally but ruthlessly. Maximum jail terms and financial penalties for traitors. Let them become martyrs, the church of trump is crumbling anyway.

Thanks,I am pretty well versed in history(from WW1 on anyway) and appeasement never has a good ending,I never recommended pardons for the practitioners of that sorry ass day who are now viewed as hostages by you know who. I just got caught up in the insanity sure to follow his hopeful defeat and figured maybe, just maybe that could nip it in the bud seeing how the DK head can't live much longer, but in retrospect you and some other friends on this forum present facts and outcomes that dispell any chance of that and these MAGA clowns are so hardcore they'd take it as a W rather than any form of mercy for healing, had a pretty strong feeling I'd catch flak for suggesting such, and if the decision were mine I'd reject it as a passing thought of a man looking for a way to prevent what could be approaching a Civil war following his defeat,I hope I'm wrong but some serious civil strife is sure to follow; infrastructure sabotage(power grid?),rioting, even possible assassinations I put nothing beyond MAGA crazed minions and Mr. Orange is already hinting at such.we already know he'll be of no help(gasoline on the fire),once again hope you didn't exp. loss on that sinful day.

If there is civil strife, it will be the lawless against the law abiding and most often that does not end well for the lawless. Civil strife, someone is planning on continuing to break the law and attack the constitution. There are no "two sides" here, they are wrong, you don't deal with the J6 crowd, you jail them, as is being done.

Unfortunately, this guy may have been correct.

Then there was this guy

The world is going through some ugly. Those of us opposing the fascists must be prepared to actually oppose the fascists.
And I thought the Obama presidency was a landmark mo
What presidential candidate does this? This is an endorsement, Jesus Christ!

Not only that.I listened to that Sammy podcast,it's a yr. or 2 old,and it's Sammy talking about the 80's when they had the construction unions and it was asked if they tried to muscle in on his construction projects,it did NOT imply that he thinks he's legit NOW,and to thank a guy w/18-19 mob hits while taking bows for his Rowe work shows how diverse his pandering is,SHAMELESS

Like he will be offering Melania some comfort. Maybe if she was a J6?

Lawyer for E. Jean Carroll suggests Trump misrepresented need to adjourn trial
The attorney for writer E. Jean Carroll suggested that the lawyer for former President Trump misrepresented the former president’s need to delay the trial in connection to $10 million in defamation damages that the writer is seeking.

Roberta Kaplan, the lawyer for Carroll, submitted a letter to U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan on Saturday regarding the former president’s one-week adjournment request of the trial to attend the funeral of Melania Trump’s mother. Kaplan wrote in the letter that Trump’s legal team said the former president could not attend the trial on Jan. 17 because he would be “traveling with family.”

However, Carroll’s attorney noted that Trump’s campaign scheduled an event featuring the former president on Jan. 17 in New Hampshire.

“There was no mention made of any scheduling conflict in connection with Mr. Trump’s presidential campaign,” Kaplan wrote in the letter. “It has come to our attention, however, that a campaign event featuring Mr. Trump has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 17, in New Hampshire.”

“We bring this to the Court’s attention because the same counsel who made representations about Mr. Trump’s availability on Wednesday are making filings today and tomorrow addressing their willingness to comply with the Court’s evidentiary rulings and other orders,” the letter states.

Trump said last week he planned to attend the trials of all his upcoming legal battles in person, including the trial with Carroll starting on Tuesday. After the death of his mother-in-law, Trump’s legal team asked the court to adjourn the trial for one week so that the former president could travel with his family and attend the funeral on Jan. 17 and Jan. 18.

“Accordingly, President Trump, who plans to attend his trial, will not be able to be present on Wednesday and Thursday as he will be traveling to be with his family and be attending the funeral. Given that this is one of life’s sad unexpected realities, President Trump would greatly appreciate this minor accommodation during this difficult time,” Trump attorney Alina Habba wrote in the letter to the judge.

The judge ultimately denied the motion to adjourn the trial for one week — a decision that Trump blasted on social media.

“Lewis Kaplan, the terrible, biased, irrationally angry Clinton-appointed Judge in the Bergdorf’s Hoax, refused to postpone the sham trial next week, even in light of the funeral of my beloved Mother-in-law. This Judge has been ruthlessly unfair from the first day of Crooked Joe Biden’s Election Interfering Witch Hunt,” he wrote on Truth Social.

The lawyer for Carroll also noted in the letter that a separate Truth Social post by Trump included false information.

“We further note that, today, Mr. Trump posted a statement on Truth Social in which he falsely wrote that he had moved to adjourn the upcoming trial only for ‘one day’ and that the trial ‘could have taken place at any time, including months ago,’” the letter reads.

The funeral for Amalija Knavs is scheduled for Jan. 18 in Florida. According to his campaign website, Trump has a campaign event scheduled in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on Jan. 17.

The trial will determine what Trump owes in defamation damages after a jury concluded last year that Trump sexually abused Carroll.
