you could build it for less, but if you bought it you would need nutes, ph tester and adjuster, ec/tds meter.
net pot $3, 5 gal bucket $5, air pump and stone $5-10, hydroton rocks $4, drain $3 : total = $25. lots of free sites with instructions on how to use DWC.

yes and yes, DWC is deep water culture.

as per wiki: Deep water culture (DWC) is a hydroponic method of plant production by means of suspending the plant roots in a solution of nutrient rich, oxygenated water. Bubbleponics is a related method of plant production that involves a top-fed Deep Water Culture system. A more accurate definition for the acronym DWC is Direct Water Culture. Direct Water Culture can be performed in deep or shallow water.

you want nutes designed for hydro.
dwc can be tricky if you don't monitor ph or change nutes frequent enough.

u can either get a water pump, put a valve at the bottom of the tub. if u dont scrog and dont mind lifting ur plant, u can lift and put into empty bucket then change out ur water and replace the top

scrog (screen of green) is a method where you train a plant to grow horizontally by means of a screen when vegging and when flowering you just leave all the branches grow vertically with on training. you will end up seeing multiple even tops as if you have a sog (sea of green) but usually with lesser plants. check out my journal in my sig im going to be using the scrog method.

You will fit in here lol, I agree with you, soil is a great way to watch a grow but I, like yourself, want to have the challenge and be part of the grow.
