Trying to pick a training method...NEED HELP

So first timer here. While my plants are still babies, i wanna figure out what training method i will use. So im thinking about topping the plants with the FIM method, and using scrog as well.
While this is my first real grow, i have grown some unknown plants (probably swag, from high school), and on those plants, i topped them with no problem, but that was years ago (5-10+yrs). Right now i have about 6 plants growing in a 4'x4'x7' tent under a 600w Metal Halide. At first i thought about just doing a LST method, without topping but im ready that you get way more bud for your effort by topping them, is this true? Is there any chance of killing the plants though?

I already have all the tools and materials to build the netting for a scrog. Quick question though... Will netting work, or should use a more rigid material for the screen? Like i have some trellis netting, it has 4-5" squares. Heres a link to the exact material i have.

I figure i would build a wooden frame (3.5'x3.5' Leaving some space in between the table that my pots are on the tent) then staple the netting to it, and build adjustable legs so i can raise/ lower it as needed.

Sounds reasonable?

**EDIT** Also when should i start topping? After 3rd or 4th node?

Thanks in advance, replies ALWAYS appreciated!
Peace

Oh yeah there is also a link within the thread to topping the plant for the training under the screen.

Yeah but the link inside the article has gone bad... Brings you to thcfarmer.com error page... but i can always google it. Thanks again, j to the rescue once more :)

**EDIT Oh wait i see the link now to this page
https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/438784-lbhs-4-way-lst-tutorial.html

That's the one.

In all honesty if you re-read LBH's SCROG thread there is only one way to do a SCROG.

There are however, quite a few ways of building a SCROG.

Just remember to 75% fill the screen then flip to 12/12. Keep the canopy nice and even and you should get 4-8" colas in each square.

Don't use ANY training method...especially NOT methods that involve damaging your plants (i.e. do NOT cut your plants for ANY reason...)

Damaging your plants ALWAYS causes stunted growth...just let them grow naturally...as nature intended...don't inject your inferrior grow plans into the plants' grow pattern...they know better than you how to grow...they always have...

Sounds like you use a 1000w system whereby you can allow plants to do their own thing.

Generally though under artificial lighting you want to maximise your light penetration by having as many growing tops as you can within the optimum lighting distance.

That's why plant training under 600w, 400w or any lower wattage is pretty much essential to maximising yield.

Why have one cola per plant basking in the optimum light when you can have 16. Granted they won't be as big as if you'd left it to do its own thing but you'll end up with more larger secondary growth.

So are you saying that everyone who trains their plants is wasting their time? If so I find that hard to believe.
