I
Come 420 is when our light hits over 12
Hours of daylight , like 13 hours come that date . Our summers are hot 85 to 95 sometimes over 100 in the Midwest , I was afraid of this being a issue with the smart pots... I got the reserve and the ability to water everyday forsure but the amount of ph down will pronly be Crazy , I got 7 gal plastic containers and plenty of soil I may do some smart and majority plastic kinda get the feel for the smart pots and see instead of trying to keep up with everytbing in them , I got 3 lbs of fox farm marine cruisine , I plan on using that for the veg part of outdoor grow then change it clearly , these will all be close in my veggie garden 10'plants silvers tuts and the cheese , I Dnt want them huge tall for many reasons , so plan on keeping them
Low and what not ...
I believe I forgot to mention I throw in Osmocote for a slow release while its growing so I don't lack anything.
I feed only to promote stronger growth.

So u think it worth a shot , running the two 400s mh and hps ,all way threw .. My only wonder is should I runnin them in a chain like or side by side chain meaning air tube pointing same direction , seems that way you would have half under mh and half hps but if u ran side by side the spectrums would cross over and the LEDs on the ends to pick up the low levels .. Seems either way would work but I think the side by side would be better but idk . I can't see why mh and hps together wouldn't make things better beings people use both to veg with and flowing with the my I would have 670w of led and hps with only 400 of mh well the LEDs are full cycle but u get my drift . Heavier on The red side then blue and neutral , my hps bulb is like 2k not 2500 so it a deep red and my solar flare is deep red and blues also..

Oh here is pics of the girls up potted the 4 today and took the tables out and got em down close to the floor , gonna try ur method of keeping the lights higher may have to adjust gonna give it a few days see what they do then go from there , from the small plants to the light is like 24 inchs lil closer to the bigger ones but I didn't have enough shit to get the smalls up higher but will adjust acordingly

They look great!
I would say yes, a mixture of two spectrums is better than one singular spectrum. I did a grow about 5 years back with a 400 watt HPS & 400 watt T5. 2 revegged plants from and outdoor grow. They were about 3 ft going in and it was lollipopped. I really wish I had a picture to share. They looked like two african trees! I yielded almost a pound off of each. I would switch the plants under each light every few days. Now, attention here... Each plant filled each perspective light, so they didn't get a blend of the lights unless I moved them. Maybe some but not direct lighting. So that is why I would rotate them every few days.
Never let anyone tell you that you can't yield a LB from a 400. My buddy does it under 2 400's every 3.5 months. He veg's for 1.5 months about then when he goes in flower he has 4 plants total and usually gets 16-18 z's. He does nothing special. Just 5 gallon buckets with some holes drilled in the bottom edges and half way up the container. He gives each about a gallon of water every 2-3 days and uses FFOF soil and the Fox Farm Trio, he was amazed by the growth he got when I gave him a bottle of Cha Ching, he starts using it at week 4 in combination with the Trio at the rate of application it states on the bottle.
He isn't one to change this up and has been getting these results for 4 years solid with all kinds of different strains.

Oh and he has his lights like I have talked about. Just mounts them up high and lets everything grow into them.

He is in a 8L x 8W x 9H ft room. It looks like you're in a grow tent so this probably won't work as well. Though , if I were you I would do a SOG or a ScROG. If you can keep a mother separate and make clones, do the SOG because it is stupid easy.
Shit, you could get an Oasis Claber or BluMat and drip feed them in some soil-less medium such as pro-mix or coco and get some faster bigger results. If you go that direction I would use a BluMat really. I have an Oasis and they don't drip enough really.

Yea been hearing people talk shit bout runnin 2 400s and blah blah sayin there not efficient I'm not worried bout costing me a extra few hundred a year , if I was worried bout that I wouldn't be doin this , sayin also that a 2x 400 ain't equal to 800w but lumens to squire foot on 16 or even 20 is 4200 at 16 square and 3600 at 20 plus my LEDs , total power of 1070 with LEDs making it over 100w a plant on the autos I plan on using , 63 w at 16 square and 50 something at 20 , using Genesis bulbs weather I decide to go 2x mh veg and 2 X hps flower or even mix the 2 I'm still shittin good , heat ain't a prob I got a 460cfm inline , 4 in boosters blowing air in air cooled hoods , my temps at 20 inchs now is 75 all day so even if it went up a few defrees still be good , got good air in plenty of air exchange , I feel I'm settin good others say no . Which I'm sure a 1k be better but I like havin two lights on fails I got another plus my LEDs , I got 4 bulbs so I always got something in case , there people growin killer with way less and way less skill , we're gonna see what happens anyway if it don't work I'll go bigger .

Grow them big, just tie down the branches so the height isn't there. If the height is the issue. IDK if this is your first outdoor grow, but if they can possibly be seen, they can definitely be smelled. I have a lot of land and I can smell mine at 100 yards+. I can smell 1 plant at that distance easily. I don't even have a good nose.

Luckily the further road is to the north which we get plenty of south southwest winds so should be good expecally being corn all around

I got a question for idk if u no anything bout led but I've got two led illumitex and California light , 280 watts combined along with a 400w hid , u think that is enough light for a 4x4 ... Hard to get any kinda accurate answer from anyone cause being a hybrid system .. If u figure up the actually wattage of 400+280 680 w / 16 square feet is 42.5 per square foot , now the led company's say the 50w is equal to 300w hid and the 220 solar flare is equal to like 600w hid seems misleading as I didn't Belive this but my LEDs r mainly side lighting .. Gonna be upgrading to more LEDs after a grow there more money but less heat and what not ,, I did grow with only the leds for a few weeks and they made bushy ass plants I no they work just need more , they penetrate great also that's why I like em I can have em lil high cover more area and still get great penetration , what are your thoughts bout my set up ... I feel I'm bout average on the size grow but will be upgrading forsure ...
Rule of thumb is 50 watts a square foot 4x4=16 square feet =800 watts

Yeah I no that but what I'm gettin at is I read something in a forum that someone said two 400 Wat lights is not considered 800w kinda odd 4x4 grow area which with all the lights I have is alil packed for that area so I opened it up to the 5x4 which gave me a dab more so I got 800w of hid and 300w of led , should be perfect for the size area I'm growing in , I no its
Not as efficient as a 600 or whatever but what I looked at is with one 600 might put out more then the 2 400 but having the corners covered and the led in the middle seems to be better mayb I'm right mayb I'm wrong but the way I train these ladies there loving the setup and not a node one is weak or small in size , I can keep my hids lil higher to get the stretch but the LEDs give it that pop to be bushy and penetrate the lower leaves overall a solid setup , some may agree and may not bout LEDs but the LEDs I got and how here set is amazing results idc what any hardcore hid man says adding both makes amazing results ...

I wouldn't say it's not as efficient. It depends on how you use it. So, you are correct about covering corners and giving you a dab more. I just see things differently when it comes to efficiency.
Sure a 400 if rated at around 40-50,000 lumens, and a 600 is around 80-90 lumens. Though, the coverage is like you said, not as good with the 600. Also, depending on the bulb, reflector used, and ballast... Without a meter we will never be able to tell if the plant is getting near perfect conditions. So, with that said, you keep doing what you're doing and keep truckin on. It's working! Bigger is not always better and newer isn't always the way to go. A time and place for everything. Your doing great.

I just kinda looked at it like if a 400 can easily cover a 3x3 solid corner to corner area to two would cover 6x6 solid they say 4x4 for 400 but I'd like to think 3x3 would give u a solid number on a 9 point square . So that being said if I run 10 auto in my 4x5 then my room added the led for that lil extra would be solid , even if I added a few dollars more a month to electric over a 600 that I could spend more money on that unit , would mayb be lil weaker in the corners so lower yeilding unless moving the plants around which would add time and such so with the added cost of the 600 mayb mayb not lower light along the edges and not being able to mix my spectrum like I wanna it makes no sense to me for my intentions .. Imma do a run with a Mh hps all way threw then next run mh mh veg flower hps hps and right at the last week or two go straight mh , heard good reports of this so WERRE gonna see what happens , oh and I got 4 Genesis bulbs for my hids .. New kids on the block I guess and not a bad price so far the big tut and the cheese r loving that new mh Genesis

Finally seeing some progress lol for the outdoor crops , got the smalls on the left started LSTing , super cropping the big tut and cheese all reached 2ft so I tied em down super cropping them and topping ..one question for you I may have asked this so if I have I'm sorry but we've spoke bout so much I can't remember lol ... These two lights would u run them side by side with the led in the middle or would U run them front to back . I see the pros and cons to both but my thinkin is now just my small brain would run them side by side and mayb put a tid bit of pitch on em oh and I'm so diggin the higher lights always prayin ... Imma try and keep em around that 20 to 24 mark so I can keep them LEDs up and with a wider coverage so my great thinkin what light I lose from height with the hids having that extra led power should make it as if I had them hid lil closer .. My next investment is gonna be a par meter there proud of them damn things I no that hell I think my light was cheaper hahaa well close
