Math was my thing....

so for your set up with the 1 ton arbor press, if you use the 2.5x2.5 plates it is 6.25 surface area 2000/6.25=320 psi
I would recommend the sheets of 1/16 inch steel they sell at lowes and home depo. Easy to cut through with the jigsaw and you can play around with plate sizes. A 2x2 plate give you 500psi or say you would like to do a more elongated plate 1.5x3 is 445psi

2.5x2.5 = 320 psi
2x2 = 500psi
1.5x3 = 445
those are the 3 plate sizes I would recommend for the arbor press and that particular flat iron. Taking .25 off can make a big difference as well. {The Equation - side1 x side2 = surface area} {force of press / surface area = psi}

on a 4x4 plate it is 24 divide the amount of force, a 1 ton arbor pres for example is 2000 lbs so 2000/24=83.34 psi... you 100lbs girlfriend will get better results with her flat iron....

rosin technologies plates are 1.75x2.75 = 4.8125 with 2400lbs of force 2400/4.8125= 498.7 psi

So you divide the pounds by surface area , right?

Your math was off.

4x4 =16"

2000 lbs / 16" = 125 psi. Still pretty weak though and considering I'm 230 . Lol

So a 2.5 x 3.5 will match my body weight if I got this correct

A 2.5 x 2.5 would be best with an arbor press then .

I'm excited now. I should have my first diy press by Christmas. I may not go to the emerald cup and use that money instead. Introduce them at the high times cup in feb.

600 lbs / 2" = 300 psi.

A 2x2 will have 150 psi

The funny thing the cast of hash church doesn't even know any of this. If they do they're keeping it secret. More times than not I feel like I'm more knowledgeable than they are. Last ep they were arguing over whether or not genetic drift exists. What they were describing is pheno typical drift. I said 3 times in the chat. Not one of them even said anything about pheno types. One said it's the performance.

Man that almost doesn't even seem worth using anymore :-/ 1" x 2" when the iron I believe is bigger than that lol. I weigh 200lbs so 150 psi is just not an option haha.

Ya true but damn 300lbs is just 100lbs more than me. I was really hoping to push at least 400lbs from the unit just to double my weight if not more. I suppose technically 300lbs of force is 50% more than I can squeeze out with my body weight..

1" x 2" though is smaller than the clamp heads so almost not really do-able?

my press does 10 tons,is hydraulic and costs about $450, YOU NEED 3 4X4 plates from micheals,$90 2 hair straightners, you probably have them already, but I used cheap ones, $30. so for around $600 you can have a kick ass press that works, i press fire every day.

How the fuck are you guys building these????? Hair straighteners with with 10 ton presses? Can we press final trim drop? You guys are great!!!! I tried it once with keif. Came out looking pretty good, but the tester said it tasted kind of burnt, so i didn't do it again.

Yeah but body weight is spread to two human feet..which are roughly 11" x 4" and you have two of them..you would need to stand on a thimble and get your body weight to be a single square inch.

What if I'm leaning into it with my hands. Pushing down as hard as I can on my desk. I wear size 13 shoe not 11. You know what that means. I wear big socks too.

I've done that exact same thing with shitty kief and kief made from bottom of the jar shake from really good weed. But was exposed to various temps and humidity levels. Humidity is the enemy of trichomes

Well I'm going with the 2.5 x 2.5 plates. Not sure how thick yet. They have 2 different ones. I'm only going to get 320 psi. I think that will be enough til I can upgrade. I've been making pretty damn good flower rosin with just a straightener and my hands. No clamp.

Same with me, I've been getting nearly 30%-40% on some $8.50 a gram hash I get from the club just using my hand and/or body weight via standing on it. I guess I just expected a better yield after seeing someone on Hash Church doing it, but after thinking about it, he was like 140lbs tops... So he probably needed every juice of power he could get lol. I could get an arbor press since it's only $20 dollars more. $10 more for a half ton press I just liked the fact that the dewalt 600 lbs hand clamp was much more portable compared to an arbor clamp.
