Understanding ppm in dwc

Many experts on here told me that they run between 600-700ppm in dwc in flower period ( I use 5g bucket, holds 3.75g of water bc of net cup). Is this correct ??? Why wouldn't a plant want more food as its growing basically ???

It mainly depends on what strain you are growing, some like higher ppm's and some lower, tho I'm not a DWC grower I am hydro and depend on my ppm's for feeding, it's up to you to decide what strain likes what ppm's by trial and error, there's no need to stick to someone elses decision, there's no set rule.

8 ball kush.... Had it up to 675 ppm and ppm started coming back down to low 600 range. For the last week ppm has been steady at 605-630.... Also say ppm is 600 and tap water is 150 what dowes that make my ppm ??? 600 right, just clearing it up.

ppm is for total solids not just the ferts so yes the ppm of your water 150 ppm is part of the 600. i have not seen a plant that grows best at 600ppm, it is strain dependent, but 600 is just too low IMO. i think most good strain mj will grow best above 800, you don't have to aim to the point where ppm is not getting lower, when ppm is going down, it means that the plants are feeding.

Its also gonna depend on what Factor your meter is set to,, .5 or .7

I use .5 and mine tend to top out at 950ppm in flower, which is 1330ppm on a .7

But as the others mentioned, there is no set number, its all about what the strain wants and can handle.

For what it's worth my white widow can't stand anything over 1000 ppm. Right now I'm running her at 950ppm including my 110ppm out of the tap. I only use maxibloom with lucas ratios and at the recommended 7grams per gallon she began to burn. Backed her off to 3/4 strength and all is well.

Her clones I have ran at 3/4 strength from veg to late flower without a single burnt leaf. I try to start with my proven formula and let the plant tell me what it likes or don't.

Ive run my purp x white Russian up to 1300 ppm in flower at a .5 conversion and i didn't see any negative reactions. I say take extra clones and try different levels and see wat she can take.

I raised the ppm up to as far as 1500 ppm in my redwc b4 they died all of a sudden. I think it was either the summer heat, or I used too much nutrients. Im going for another trial. This is a old pic, I will post a update pic when the seeds become DWC-able. DNA Genetics Purple OG, It was not a successful run, but I ended up with a lot of seeds. Are the seeds bad? I threw them in filtered water and they all sprouted within a day. IDK should I keep them for a run? Or wait for my Kushberry Also from Attitude to arrive.? Or I can do both and let the champions into the cold spa.

The pics was from the last run.. It got cold again in Los Angeles so I decided to fire up the LEDs and MH bulbs for another try. This time, I'm gonna use MH/HPS during winter and LED during summer just to avoid the encounter again. This was taken a few weeks before they all started to dried up. The water topped and changed after many times but they continued to keep dehydrating during flowering. It was like they couldn't drink any water that their roots were submerged in? And they eventually dried up. funny part was that only a 70% of the damaged plants were not ready/ smoke able. And the other 30% was good decent smell but had a lot of seeds. Now the seeds i saved, aren't from pollen sacks as they were hidden inside the premature buds. After 3 months from harvest which was August, I finally found some cured Prematurely harvested Purple og Kush. The smell was not comparable to the dispensaries but the high definitely was. My main question here is what exactly classifies a hermaphrodite plant or genetic?

All feminized seeds have hermie genetics, but the breeders have tried to breed as much of it out as possible. The main reason people end up with hermie plants is because of poor environment and other stresses.

Your ppm is all dependant on your nutes. Every nute has different ppms. I run Fox Farm and I run anywhere from a low of 1200 ppm up to 2000 ppm. Your nutes feed schedueled will tell you the baseline amounts and what ppm and ec should be. Keep your ph around 5.5 -5.8 max. Use your nute makers chart as a starting point and as you grow strains you fine tune them over time and learn if they heavy feed or light feed you then adjust the feedings to that plants wants but start with the makers base recommended ppm. Basically if someone tells you a ppm amount as if its for all feeds never listen to them again as you have to be nute specific to quote a baseline ppm

I've read that growing under CFLs will limit the PPMs you can get away with, so 600 ppm might be a reference to nute strength under CFL.

I'm running iconic grow/pk/bloom.. the mother's (spicey White Devil,Green Love Potion, and a Hawaiian Wave are running at 1100ppms... they are almost 7 feet tall.and like day 33 in flower... now the clones. Have been flowering for 21 days.. at a ppm of 600.. to see the differences . They are shorter.. about 3.5/4 feet tall.. both mothers and clones are going STRONG... so I know now.. that low ppms are fine for these strains.. saves me money on nutes...
I'm also running a Barneys LSD, purple paralysis, and Pakistani Chitral Kush.. like 22 days veg.. those ppms are sitting at 400.. playing with nutes to try and keep things smaller.. yet not sacrifice the yield/ quality..it's all a fun game.. if you treat it as such.. .. all buckets are 3.5 gals oh between 5.5/5.9
