Unexplainable slime in rez... stumped

I was about to replace an old airstone in the rez today when I noticed the tube was slimy. I ran my hands along the inside of the container and the entire thing is slimy along the sides and bottom. The rez is full of plain purified water that's being aerated with an airstone, nothing else. The slime is odorless and clear, but I'm concerned. Does anyone know what this is or why it's forming? This is the first time I've ever seen this. Any info is appreciated, thanks!

i think some h202 would take care of this but not completly sure. im new to hydro myself. just started a dwc cooler. would like to hear what others opinions are as well.

I should also mention the rez is dark blue, no light can get in. Thanks sk8, I'll check it out. I've seen all kinds of posts about algae and white slime, but I can't find anything about clear slime with a water-only rez. Hmm..

never seen clear my slime is brown and does have a smell! you can try H202 at 7ML per gal every three days, or 6 to 7 drops of plain bleach per gal.
nethier of those has solved my problem just kepps it from geting worse. not saying it wont help or solve your issue. Im looking into DM-zone next.
that being said if you are or have bennys living in your res or are using organic DONT USE ANY OF WHAT i JUST TOLD YOU only use in inorganic nutes

but wouldn't it be impossible for anything to form in water alone? the rez never had nutes in it, just plain water.

That is strange. Are you sure that the blue tub is 100% light proof? Even a little bit of light ain't good. I've never had slime problems, and I've let my res go 1 month before changing... full nutes. But my res is without a doubt lightproof.

thanks mike, i'm gonna try to tape up the side a little bit. i guess light could come straight through if it was bright enough. thanks for the advice

no nute/plain water wtf, there has to be some light geting in somewhere

i bet that blue tub is letting some light in, mine did. i use blue 18 gallon rufnecks and i spray painted mine first black to absorb any light and then white to reflect light and heat. (pain in the ass) the paint rubs off and the paint gets expensive you have to buy the paint that adheres to plastic rustoleum brand seems to adhere best. i read somewhere that the reflective furnace tape works well but i know it could tear as well if scraped by something plus its pretty expensive too but slime is no good.

With your air pump, be sure you're doing at least 1 watt per gallon. Either go for the completely sterile reservoir by using H202, or go with the beneficial bacteria and fungi approach. If you you go the bennies approach, I would follow Heisenberg's Thread.

hey dude one more thing. you should keep your hands out of your rez. thats probably where the slime came from.
