HPS is better for flower as mh is the wrong color spectrum. The red or hps color is for flower promotes heavier yields more resin production. The mh or blue is best for flower and promotes green thick bush growth less tsretch and the light imitates a more spring time color spectrum as versus the red fall light of hps

Yup, this may be true, but i have had no complaints about flowering under MH, And i dont mind the heavy covering of trichs either. These are not done yet, but they will be good enough for me under MH.

My 1 250 watt HPS, that i use in my veg chamber by the way

..., runs way hotter than 1 400 watt MH hanging in my flower cabinet. I keep my MH about 12 inches from the tops and a box fan on high blowing across between the light and my plants.

I know the difference between MH and HPS in veg and flower, but i like to be different...... :-o

...actually i had the spare HPS laying around and a buddy helped me out with the MH. So i used what i had the best way i could. More plants in flower than in veg at one time, so i used what i had most of to flower with.....that was the 2 MH's :-P

I plan to swap it around some day, but for now i'm not gonna fix what aint broken....ya' know what i mean? :weed:

Who is to say whats right and wrong? My setup may not be the exact same replica as yours or some other guys, but that does not make it wrong my friend. Actually I have had people here tell me that MH will produce more resin production than HPS, and HPS will provide more density to buds. Who knows? I just do what works for me, like everybody else here does.

I use the MH for the first 2-3 weeks of flowering then switch to HPS to finish it off.

Mostly to get more use out of my MH bulb

Its not that you cant use mh with great success but through many many research funded expirements over many years it has been shown the red or hps spectrum is better used by the plant for flower while the blue or mh is better suited for vegging the plants. Now that said I do mix mine and use enhanced spectrum bulbs that offer closer to a 70 red 30 blue out put which gives you the benfits of both...Its not saying you can only flower with hps and only veg with mh its just the fact that each is better suited to a certain stage of growth as imitateion of natures natural sunlight cycle. Good grows either way

I understand, and like i said earlier, i hope to someday put some HPS in with my MH, but right now i cant afford the extra lights.

My only question would be....if you have a MH and HPS hanging side by side in your cabinet, WOuldn't you really only be lighting half with one and the other half with the other? I wouldn't think there would be much mixing, except for between the two lights, where both side rays meet center of the canopy.

Man, you could go on and on about lights.

Why not get a MH Cool, Neutral, and Warm, then finish off with an HPS/ MH Dual Spectrum, and finally a str8 HPS? You could be constantly switching out like 5 different bulbs!

And I hear those MH/ HPS in the samee bulb SUCK.

these pics were taken a few days ago. they've been flowering for 6 weeks now.
this branch was broke off by a deer, so i harvested it, and here is the out come of that bud. its only been in a jar for about 12 hours.
its an indica hybrid called pot of gold.

I think they would overlap and create a daul spectrum sweetspot. light is not a solid therefor the 2 must mix.

of course not. it dried for three days, but i left it a little dank....
its smells and smoke's awesome. and even though it was harvested a few weeks early it still has a nice high.

Fletch: I guess if you grew in a real small cabinet you might get some of that effect. I like to put the mh in between 2 600 watt hps lights and then raise it a bit.The hps lights overlap with the wider blue spectrum mh up higher it covers most of the plants. The mh I add is usually just a small 400 watt light to add color but I have since that practice grabbed a handful of 150 watt mh lights and like to add 3 to a grow area one on each side of the hps and one between. In a small cabinet i wold get a 150 watt mh and 250 watt hps bulbs and mod a reflectors and put both bulbs in there together then the spectrums would mix well and if your worried a quick turn of the reflector reverses the side each light is on
